I usually don't like players who ever turn their back on international football, especially at the ripe, old age of thirty. Don't get me wrong I thought he was properly finished but he has had a new lease of life under Rodgers proving me wrong in the process. I don't mean he'll get sent off, he doesn't have any tactical discipline. Look at the first Poland goal at Hampden in the last campaign, he charged out trying to win a ball from their right-back that was never on, and was then out of position. With Germany's second goal at Hampden he gave up on tracking Muller. In the Premiership he can get away with it: players aren't as good and he'll win the ball off them, or they aren't as good and his failing to track them won't matter. His industry has a use, and might even have had a place against Lithuania, but this just smacks of wanting to come back for the big game. Not technically good enough? 91% pass completion against Man City. He's there's to break up okay though which we don't seem to be able to do in his absence. A massive improvement on Darren Fletcher at the moment. If it happens it has to be Brown and Mcarthur in the middle. Against Slovakia no one even put in a tackle, at least that would change. The last game against the Germans he was chasing shadows and in Spain well no need to comment. Brown is a great asset for Celtic in the week in/week out league matches but he looks out of his depth in European or international football. He's not at his best just now, had a few standout games in the big games this season though and although I don't agree with his return (because it'll make f**k all difference to the campaign were ooot) he certainly can't be worse than the biggest shitebag Scotlands ever had play for them Darren Fletcher. I was quite pleased when he retired. But let's not pretend we haven't missed him. We struggled against Malta before getting the world's worst refereeing decision, drew at home to Lithuania and barely registered a shot on target in a doing by Slovakia, who we'll all agree were a lot worse than expected. It can't hurt. Darren Fletcher has been very poor in all three matches, Morrison isn't playing at West Brom, Bannan has been OK but isn't going to win the ball back at Wembley.... anyone else who has been in and around the squad (McGinn, Dorrans, Bridcutt, Armstrong, McDonald, McLean) either isn't ready or would be in from the blue. Brown & McArthur are our best two central midfielders at the moment, like it or not. It was a very strangely timed retirement, a couple of weeks before a campaign when the last one had finished almost a year prior. Can only assume whatever prompted it then has changed, be it injury, personal circumstance or Rodgers deciding he can give it a go. It does reek of desperation from Strachan to get one of his favourites back, and it speaks volumes of how shite we've been that we've missed him this much - however McArthur and Brown are our best partnership for Wembley. Can only assume he thought he was done and that he wouldn't get back to this level. Now that he has, he might have a different opinion in what he's capable of. I fully expect him to re-retire post this game anyway. Coming back for one game, and one in which we'll probably need a more combative midfield, isn't going to kill him.
