I'm pretty sure the scouts rated him as a 3rd or 4th round talent but Al Davis took him with a top 5 pick

He was generally projected as a late 1st-rounder. Don't get me wrong, he was a bust for the Raiders, but the way the story is told, every couple of years he seems to drop a round further back from where he was originally projected. Some sort of reverse Seville calculator at work.

He was generally seen as the 3rd or 4th WR in the draft behind Crabtree, Maclin and possibly Harvin, and it was at #7, so hardly a dreadful pick. Just a reach.

http://walterfootball.com/pro2009dhb.php -  "I give him a fringe first-round/strong second-round 3.5-star grade."

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=56743&draftyear=2009&genpos=WR - "Projected Round: 1"

It's hard to find projections that aren't stupid fantasy football ones, but those are the two I can see on the first page of a Google search. He definitely wasn't a 3rd/4th round projection. But yeah, it was a standard Al Davis player in that he picked the faster WR than the two who were definitely better prospects and all-round players.

There's not a single part of that team that is anywhere near good enough. Last year the defence were OK but usually got worn down by spending way too much time on the field, but when Bowman got injured the other week it has gone from bad to abysmal since.

Phil Dawson does not let us down.

There has to be wholesale changes at the team from GM down and no way I would want a clown like Kelly helping rebuild. 6/17 since we sacked Harbaugh.

No being funny but where do you start on the rebuild? Needing such an overhaul of the roster, how many of them are on longer contracts and how many years do you think it'll take to make them half decent again?

They're so bad it's just ridiculous.

Fair play for sitting through a 3 hour game. Must be soul destroying stuff wanting them to win.

They need to start with coaches and GM. The rest will follow.

49ers game on the laptop, redzone on the TV.

It has to start with the front office, but as Jute says that looks unlikely as the GM is the owner's pet. Last year's completely uninspiring appointment of Tomsula was a disaster, several players left because of that, a couple even retired. Draft after draft they have done trades to get extra picks but all that has done has sacrificed quality for quantity.

You can pick faults all over the roster. The QBs are poor, but they aren't helped by being stuck behind a duff O-line and having no targets thst can be relied on. On the other side the d-line is dreadful, the run defence is non existent, and the secondary is awful too.

It's bad when the only two guys you can rely on to any extent are your kicker, and a punter who has had a solid year after toiling as a rookie last year.
