The last thing we need is another 'blueprint' from a busted flush bore like Henry McLeish, going away for 6 months and coming back telling us we need a 10 team top flight and summer football. I'd rather just put up with a shite national team.

We need to pretty much copy Iceland.

The seeds for this rise were planted by the KSí in the mid-1990s, when it began discussions on how to overcome its challenges of population and climate. The initiative bore its first fruit in 2000, when KSí built the first of a series of domed football facilities known as "football houses" in Keflavík near the country'smain international airport.[14] Eventually, a total of 15 football houses were commissioned,[12] some with full-sized pitches and others with half-size pitches,[14]with these facilities supplemented by more than 20 full-sized outdoor artificial pitches and over 100 smaller artificial pitches throughout the country.[12] All children's schools in the country now have at least a five-a-side football pitch on their premises.[14]Additionally, all of the football houses are publicly owned, making access easier and much less expensive than comparable facilities in many other countries.[15]

At the same time, KSí invested heavily in training of coaches, starting a regular program designed to equip coaches with UEFA "A" and "B" licenses. The association chose to conduct all courses at its headquarters in Reykjavík, and deliberately chose not to make a profit off the courses, reducing costs for participants.[15] By January 2016, more than 180 Icelandic coaches held an A license and nearly 600 held a B license;[14] an additional 13 held UEFA's highest Pro license.[16] This translates to about one in every 500 Icelanders being a UEFA-qualified coach. By contrast, the corresponding ratio in England is about 1 in 10,000.[14] Many top clubs in the country have B-licensed and even A-licensed coaches overseeing children as young as age 6.[14]Every UEFA-licensed coach in the country has a paid coaching position, although only a small number receive a full-time salary.[15]

The Iceland Football Association (KSÍ) have invested money on youth development.[16][17][18]

What about Scotland? Jumpers for goalposts coaching

SFA not fit for purpose. If Iceland can put structure in place and it works. We have no excuse.

How many fecking times are we gonna rake over the ashes and then predict a bright new future. Only to end up back at square one. It's like Groundhog Day but not very funny.

Cronyism and ineptitude is killing our game from the top.

An independent group of recognised and experienced footballing brains should be given free reign to sort it out and take over from SFA. They can remain in background, doing the donkey work.

Basically all the social media "experts" ridiculed the idea ( can't remember if it was one of Henry McLeish's or not )  of following Iceland's concept about 5 or so years ago .  Strange how things change.

Whilst we're having the great Scottish football cull, is there any way we can get our entire sports media to f**k as well? It seems everybody in our game knows each other, and nobody ever gets criticised for anything because they don't want to offend their mates. Strachan should've been getting his arse handed to him by anyone who had the platform to do so, but Neil McCann, Steven Thompson, Willie Miller all just made shite excuses for his woeful failure.

I nominate Chris Sutton to replace Regan and possibly just run the country whilst he's at it. The only man around who sticks up for Scottish football and who knows when to call a spade a c**t.

Sutton finds it easy to identify c***s.  He sees one in the mirror every morning.

I thought Thompson was fairly scathing of Strachan on Radio Scotland after the game. Pretty much disagreed with everything he'd said in the post-match interview and laid into the team for conceding 'playground' goals.

Fair enough, didn't mean to give you a thumbs up there but I won't disagree all the same if that's what he said.

Neil McCann was an embarrassment after the game though. Edged towards criticising Strachan and then talked some shite about how he needs to stay and turn it around. The guy will never turn it around FFS.

I don't disagree with your overall point here; the Scottish media is a bubble and there's definitely an element of holding their tongue, so as not to offend friends or colleagues. Just thought it should be known that some of them aren't towing the party line.
