I can't imagine why anyone would want to be England coach, when even the broadsheets are out the see him fail. dogmc was referring to Southgate's youth job, not his new senior job. Southgate has taken his new job, which he did not want in the summer, under pressure. It will hopefully end in tears after we beat England at Wembley. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be England coach, when even the broadsheets are out the see him fail. Compared to senior mgr gig it's below the radar of the press and he's exactly the sort of well turned out young man that the fa blazers like. He's in a much more secure role than the senior mgr could ever hope for. Agree with you're point tho its a poisoned chalice hence the ludicrous wage they have to offer. Musketeer Gripweed
How can they have a caretaker manager for 3 months? How long will it take for them to phone an out of work Steve Bruce? That said, they could do worse than muddle through until next summer when Wenger's contract is up.
s_dog
Good point about Southgate, but if he wins a few games and the English FA are keen to stick with an English manager, while he might be far more intelligent than Allardye, will Southgate be able to resist the money? Wenger would have to be absolutely mad to take the job.
