HibeeJibee
Was is OP's criteria to assess the best. Are we talking about excitement: for example the title and other things going down to the last day? Attendances? "Quality" however adjudged? 54_and_counting
wasnt there a season less than a decade ago where the SPL title, europeans places and relegation were all settled on the final day, including a winner takes all relegation match, maybe 2008-
HibeeJibee
You thinking of 2004-05? * on the Saturday, Livingston held Dundee to a 1-1 draw. This was enough to relegate Dundee (33pts) and save Livingston (34pts) and Dunfermline (34pts) who lost at Kilmarnock * on the Sunday, Rangers won 1-0 at Hibs. This was enough for Rangers (93pts) to pip Celtic (92pts) as they lost at Motherwell * it was also enough for Hibs (61pts +7) to qualify for UEFA Cup ahead of Aberdeen (61pts +5) as although they beat Hearts it wasn't by enough and neither was Hibs margin of loss

HibeeJibee
Hearts + Kilmarnock met on what was for them the 'last day'. Dunfermline finished 4 days later but knew they couldn't win before either game.

HibeeJibee
Up until the 1970s the league was never scheduled to finish on the same day. Usually the fixtures ran-out some time in March or early April and often the last few weeks was simply a jumble of rearranged games. Things were particularly up-in-the-air in spring 1965 as they had to get finished for the Summer Cup groupstages. However, if you really want to blow your mind - that Hearts v Kilmarnock "head-to-head" title decider was played the same afternoon as Celtic v Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup Final.
