Stranraer V Rovers

Recommended Posts

Considering nipping down on the train for this one.

On the back of last weeks win we should be confident, Stranraer have had a disappointing start to the season and we got a win down there last season.

I'd take the narrowest of wins but as has been said elsewhere on here, a draw would be an acceptable result.

Il say 2-1 rovers

Six pointer already! Such things happen when you don't get points on the board early. A draw would be acceptable, but a win at Stair Park last year was one of the catalysts for our good early season run, so we should really be aiming for that again.

Any Stranraer fans know if kids of primary school age get in for free? They're not mentioned on the admission tariff on the Stranraer website.

Far too early for a Six pointer, both teams will be fine I'm sure. The blues might make  one or two changes but our form at Stair pk recently has been ok apart from getting beat 5 by Alloa,I think Mark Mcguigan will score against his old team, come back to haunt you again.

Can any Stranraer folk advise if the train from Glasgow Central goes directly to Stranraer. Having a bit of bother with the Scotrail app

Few of the Stranraer trains run between the town and Kilmarnock.
Best option is to get a train to Ayr, change there then on to Stranraer. Going via Kilmarnock is more time consuming and less comfortable.

Hopefully see the team that turned up against Dumbarton or the first half against Peterhead. Replicate any of our other performances and we'll struggle.
Would like to see Barron back at right back as he seems a very calming influence and retains the ball well.
Don't know the answer in midfield. Still feel Thomson and Agnew don't compliment each other too well. Both strong going forward but offer little in the way of support for the defence.

Mmm. I fancy we'll both be in the relegation play-off place struggle.

No chance.

The word on the street Matt is that Watt will start, just 90 mins before all is revealed.

Travelled through to watch the game at Methil last week and witnessed one of the worst Stranraer performances in recent years. Today was a lot better!

Brian Reid generally gives youngsters a fair chance and ain't afraid to drop established players like Agnew who was going through the motions and McKeown who hasn't been at his best so far. I hope and expect both players to raise their game throughout the season and make useful contributions - both deserved to be dropped today though. Wullie Gibson is class when on form but a game on the bench maybe wouldn't do him any harm either. Thomson had his first really good game in a Stranraer shirt, Moreno justified his selection and Turner did okay. We struggled a bit near the end but deserved to win and the score probably flattered Albion Rovers a little. Didn't think they offered much and on this evidence will be battling against relegation.

Belford was impressive in goal, Baron solid at the back, Thomson offered a threat scoring two good goals and McGuigan worked hard. Our squad looks a little thin just now but in all fairness we did have a couple out injured. Malcolm had a poor game but got 90 minutes as we had no strikers on the bench. Hopefully this improved performance and result can be a stepping stone to better things. If we get our act together play offs should still be within reach.

Agree with most of your post Tucker, bar Gibson he did cost us a goal getting caught with the ball, but defense did not deal well with it either, but from where we were sitting he was practically unplayable, lost count of number of crosses he sent in. As you said Moreno added bite in midfield and can spread a few nice passes as well.

Fair enough - I maybe didn't convey what I meant very well. Wasn't suggesting he was poor today - just don't think his performance levels have been great so far this season and a game on the bench maybe wouldn't hurt. Although thats a controversial call because on his day no denying he is one of our most gifted players and a potential matchwinner. Perhaps am still struggling to forget his display last Saturday which was particularily poor IMO.

Better team won yesterday; no question. We did muscle ourselves back in late on and had chances that would have meant a stolen point, but it would definitely have been theft.

That really wasn't a good performance at all yesterday, and part of it was a voluntary choice by our management. Playing a 6 ft 4 striker who can't tackle and doesn't know how to defend (simple 'get goal side' stuff seemed beyond him) as a winger with duties to track back was mental. It was addressed at half time but not in the first half; indeed after 20 mins they moved him to the left wing where he was just as bad. Fair play to the boy that he worked hard throughout but hopefully such experiments will cease and he'll play up top from now on and bring others into play.

Best Rovers player was arguably Ryan Wallace. He's a very able replacement for Ally Love; an absolute grafter but with more internalised aggression. He did let his passion show in confronting the ref about the unpunished fouls on Boyd in the lead-up to Stranraer's 2nd goal but we'll forgive him that as it did look a howler.

So, yeah, Airdrie next

Didn't make it after all yesterday. The joys of being on call [emoji849]

Not good then eh? What's happened to young Callum Ferguson? Is he injured at the moment?
