Dindeleux
He seems to be trying to blame himself but at the same time push some of the blame to the FA. Typical of Barton.

What makes you think it hadn't? If it had been fully taken into account he'd have been banned for life!

He's had a bet, he's not a drugs cheat, he hasn't deliberately tried to break a leg. IMHO his offence is no more serious than someone rolling around play acting or taking a dive, can't remember anyone receiving bans even close to Barton' for any of those offences, it's even more laughable when you consider how much of the devils cash Football Associations and clubs are happily trousering at the moment. Jambomo
Footballers aren't the only ones not allowed to bet on their own sports. An example is that jockeys aren't allowed to bet on racing either. They are both seen to be in a position to influence the outcome, not just by playing in it but they build up networks and have friends within other teams - it might just take a message to get your mate who plays at Burnley to kick the ball out for a corner or to make the first foul. Nothing massive but enough to fix the betting. There are plenty of other markets to be in, he could back horses, dogs - anything else that he wants. No need to bet on football when he knows he can't.I'm not saying that Barton is doing anything like that but they are there to protect the players from suspicion as much as anything else. If he chooses to break the rules then he deserves what he gets.
Zen Archer (Raconteur)
The Football Association says Joey Barton's 18-month suspension from all football activities was "the shortest possible" ban it could have imposed after he breached rules on gambling. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39738553
