He doesn't mention the Secretary of State who came out against Russia and got sacked the next day either.

Trumps special relationship is with Putin and no one else.

Aye,the american war of independence in the 1770s/1780s and in 1812-1814 as welshbairn quoted involved the "battle of new orleans"

1812-14 was a draw, nobody won. The British burned down the White House but lost at New Orleans, the US didn't achieve any of their war aims at all.

My Canadian colleague claims it as a win for them

The Yanks got to keep all the territory they bought from Napoleon in the Louisiana Purchase. I'd call it a score draw.

Trump does have a lot of mutual connections with Putin - that are worrying.

However Pompeo is much more of a war hawk than Tillerson - the sacking could very well be connected to Tillerson being less desperate for upping the war games against Iran.

Also could be related to the quotes in "Fire and Fury" where Tillerson is alleged to have called Trump a moron.

Tillerson didn't know how to play Trump. He made the mistake of trying explain how in international diplomacy there are very few simple solutions and that sometimes a bad deal is better than no deal at all. Trump thought he was patronising him and was fed up of not being able to make headline grabbing news. Pompeo has met him every morning for intelligence briefings and knows to say "Yessir, brilliant idea, I'll get right on it", then come back the next day and tell him he's just found out some very bad consequences if his plan was carried out, and what a shame as it was a great plan. Hopefully his attitude to the Iran deal is more mouth than action.
