Document from EU saying that what UK wants is impossible and not compatible with their goals.

Everyone with any sense knew this would be the case, that the cake and eat it scenario was a non starter.

...and yet the Tory f*ckwits keep on ploughing forward with the same hopeless plan, simply because they're terrified of the right-wing press, and the fanatics and extremists in their own party.

I can probably predict the outcome of this one already.
Hammond, Rudd, May etc. will want a transitional deal where we still have access to parts of the membership (for a few years at least)
Gove, Johnson, Davis and Fox will want some hard brexit ("making Britain great again" type deal)
Monday morning - back to square one.
The EU must be p*ssing themselves laughing at the UK.

Are we expecting a statement on this?

Aye hopefully a Sevco FC type one

Not to mention all the people who voted Leave because "have your cake and eat it" sounds wonderful, and though it seems impossible these amazing politicians obviously know how to make it happen or they would never have suggested it in the first place.

Never understand that analogy. What's the point having a cake and not being able to eat it. Seems a tad pointless

The analogy is that if you eat the cake at lunchtime, you no longer have it to eat at dinner time.   Maybe cans of beer would be a better analogy.

What a clusterfuck.

Tories saying they want to be out of the single market but want frictionless borders.  Can’t happen.  It’s like watching a football match and wanting both teams to win.

Corbyn repeating his “jobs friendly Brexit” shite.  It’s shite Jeremy; a completely meaningless, vacuous load of shite.  How he’s getting away with this utter drivel without being challenged on it defies believe.

The Tories have no policies on Brexit and the Labour leader’s policy is a meaningless sound bite.

I was in Gibraltar yesterday. In the event of a hard Brexit, the place is fucked. There is a significant movement into and out of Spain for working people.  That will grind to a halt. It's a mini Ireland situation but there is no Irish Sea fallback.

Yes. And the Spanish will border check so hard to ensure that Gibraltar quite rightly becomes Spanish sovereign ground

Gibraltar is a weird place - in p and b terminology it's trying way too hard to be just like Blighty. I'm not fussed about Spain having it - they've got their own enclave over the water in Morocco which kind of takes away any moral high ground.

Newsnight suggesting hard Brexit has won at Chequers. Start the car Nicola.

Gibraltar etc... are in for a tough time.

Can see them going it alone in the eu a la Malta etc....but hard decisions have to be made and there may be years of uncertainty inbetween times.

They maybe could have come with Scotland back into the eu.......however I suspect the exact nature of our eu relationship post independence is still to be decided by the people of Scotland.

Most likely outcome now is a hard Brexit going by rumours on social media.

The UK government are supposedly  going to propose that the UK wants to keep EU standards and rules but on their terms as agreed by the Cabinet Committee.

That means out of the customs Union and Single Market. They are also proposing to guarantee the rights of EU Citizens in the UK. But don't see anything regards free movement of people.

The EU have been consistent from the very start and insist on free movement and membership of the Customs Union and Single Market to keep the same arrangements.

No idea how that effects the Irish border and to me it looks like they have sacrificed the GFA.

If the rumours are true and this is the outcome, then we are all in for a very hard time and will force Nicola Sturgeons hand in call indyref2
