There were definitely benches in the Derry and the Provost Road End for both the 1979 replay and the 1980 final. T C Keay End was still standing then, as that’s where I was for both matches.

Sorry Joey but nearly 40 years later your mind is playing tricks. Had you put benches in for those two games then you'd had to have stood on someone's head to see the match.

I was at both of these games KJ. I stood in the Derry for yours but the 1980 final was the first game played at Dens with the benches in. The Provie Rd end was terracing for both games.

Meant they had to play one game (vs Falkirk?) on a midweek afternoon because there were no floodlights.

Looking at Fitba Stats, I think Hibs must have played three games on midweek afternoons during that period.

2-0 v Motherwell on 22 March 1995, 0-2 v Falkirk on 19 April and 1-1 v Celtic on 10 May. 6000 crowd for a Hibs - Celtic game! The derby on the Saturday before the Celtic game only had 7146. That would be about full capacity (!), because the East Terrace and the old main stand would only hold about 8,000 total, less a bit for segregation.

I think the last game before they flattened the end terracing was Rangers on 4 March.

Seems a bit wierd to me, and I like cycling! 

Me, loads of times, but only to lower level matches. In the past year I've been to Musselburgh, Jeanfield Swifts (Perth), Kilmarnock (for a Scotland age-grade match), Bonnyrigg Rose, Neilston... there might be others but I can't remember. Junior clubs always let you bring your bike in and the guys at the gates have always been very welcoming about it.

I wouldn't do it at a match with a big crowd though, because there's too many people walking on the paths, too many cars on the road and too many neds who'll steal your bike from outside. There's also a bigger risk of not getting it on the train.

If they had a segregated bike path all the way it's definitely how I'd choose to get there from the train station. Without it clearly being just for bikes you'll encounter too many folk walking to/from the game, especially as you get nearer. Instead I'll probably end up driving like everyone else.
