Torpar
Genuine question. Why do fans of the Kirkcaldy team refer to Dunfermline fans as Townies? And do any Pars' fans actually take any offence to this nickname?
Paco
Some shit reason that makes little to no sense. Unlikely. Genuine question. Did this merit its own thread?

AMC13
Why do Dunfermline fans call Raith Rovers the wee team when the have in fact scored against Bayern Munich.

Well it was either its own thread or adding to the shit storm in the match thread.
Gaz FFC
Why do both towns wish they were Falkirk?

It seems silly to call them the wee team, they also won the B&Q Cup in 2014 1 minute ago, Gaz FFC said: Why do both towns wish they were Falkirk? HoBNob
Townies can be swiftly put besides "Lino Licker" in the cringe patter stakes. I don't get the townies thing though, another Raith fan told me it was because people from Dunfermline think we're a city. The whole conversation was baffling. I'm sure it's tried to brand itself a city but no one actually believes they live in one. As much as I hate to admit it, both towns are pretty similar. And I agree on the lino licker stuff. Gregor147
Never mind Townies. Is there any definitive reason why you are called the Pars?

The city story is also the one I have heard, if that is indeed correct it's a really shite nickname for you, Scumvermine on the other hand is comedy gold. Eta : is pars not something to do with parallel stripes?
Poet of the Macabre
I've always thought Dunfermline was a town so the 'townies' patter never made a lick of sense to me. As for Falkirk, it's so good the football team would rather play in Grangemouth.

I like to think it's based on the Gaelic translation for Dunfermline: Dun Parlain
Scary Bear
Townhill district within the town is the connection, hence "Townies" I thought it was to mock their city credentials.
Scary Bear
I'm pretty sure even Falkirk doesn't want to be Falkirk Ramsdens Cup gets you more slagging points than B&Q Cup IMO.However, we did beat Sevco in the final. Probably the biggest diddy cup final ever.Agreed on Falkirk.

DAFC.
Dunfermline is most definitely a town. I've always thought it was weird though that the signs point to the 'City Centre'.

I think Dunfermline had signs by the roadside, as you entered Dunfermline, that stated you were a city. Hence the 'townie' thing.
