Salvo Montalbano
Bump. Budapest withdrew earlier this year claiming they'd no chance of winning. IOC's now decided Paris hosts 2024 - and unexpectedly given 2028 to Los Angeles without a bidding process. It wasn't unexpected though - they were the only 2 cities bidding for the next 2 games (although both originally wanted 2024) and after Paris argued that the land required wouldn't be available after 2024 and LA were given assurances that financing will still be available 4 years later they came to an agreement a month or so back. Two good hosts I reckon, although I'd have preferred Budapest as somewhere new, and they do have a lot of the facilities already with the new swimming complex etc.
HibeeJibee
Bidding for 2028 wasn't due until 2021? It's only recently that the idea of awarding both at once, FIFA-style, has come about. IOC has struck a deal to keep them both happy. However anyone who wanted to bid for 2028 - but wasn't bidding for 2024 - are stuffed and have to wait until 2032. It was only in late July they announced the switch. Various cities not bidding for 2024 were considering 2028 bids:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bids_for_the_2024_and_2028_Summer_Olympics#2028
