Bump.

Budapest withdrew earlier this year claiming they'd no chance of winning.

IOC's now decided Paris hosts 2024 - and unexpectedly given 2028 to Los Angeles without a bidding process.

It wasn't unexpected though - they were the only 2 cities bidding for the next 2 games (although both originally wanted 2024) and after Paris argued that the land required wouldn't be available after 2024 and LA were given assurances that financing will still be available 4 years later they came to an agreement a month or so back. Two good hosts I reckon, although I'd have preferred Budapest as somewhere new, and they do have a lot of the facilities already with the new swimming complex etc.

Bidding for 2028 wasn't due until 2021? It's only recently that the idea of awarding both at once, FIFA-style, has come about.

IOC has struck a deal to keep them both happy. However anyone who wanted to bid for 2028 - but wasn't bidding for 2024 - are stuffed and have to wait until 2032.

It was only in late July they announced the switch.
