Good to see common sense prevailed and Berwick is no longer included alongside Dumfries & Galloway clubs in the "South Section". However, looking at the draw they should really do away with that section entirely, or have South-East and South-West sections instead of Central and South? There are only 2 clubs in it - Annan and Stranraer - which saw both get a bye in R1, then have to play each other in R2. In this section the 2 clubs play for 1 place in R3. However, up North some 13 clubs have to play for 5 places in R3, and in the Central section some 24 clubs have to play for 10 places in R3.

All the SPFL Development League, DL East, DL West, Aberdeenshire DL and Lowland & EOS DL clubs have entered (except for Cove Rangers, Edinburgh University and University of Stirling). Annan, Montrose, Clachnacuddin and Lossiemouth are not playing in any U20s leagues next season but will presumably put together bespoke XIs for their ties. Latter pair may be entering the North of Scotland U20s, tbf, information on it is scanty.

Sixteen R2 ties due this weekend but struggling to find out the details for many of them.

Below are from the Scottish Fixtures website and the EOS League website although I'd not be surprised if the EK-BSCG, Ed City-Preston and Edusport-LTHV ties are actually Friday (their usual game day).

Friday 23rd September
Hamilton v Raith (8pm)
Spartans v Whitehill (7:45pm)

Sunday 25th September
Livingston v Dunfermline (1:30pm)
Cowdenbeath v Partick (2pm)
Tynecastle v Hibernian (2pm)
East Kilbride v BSC Glasgow
Edinburgh City v Preston Athletic
Edusport Academy v LTHV

However, the Tynecastle v Hibs match is off as Hibs can't raise a team. SFA's allowed it rescheduled. Tynecastle raging:

Seems strange Hibs couldn't raise a team played their Shield Final last night no problem.

Pretty poor stuff from hibs. Failure to raise a team is frowned upon at amatuer level, there's no way hibs can legitimately be unable to fulfill this, bottle job from the SFA, this is a forfeit surely?Should be fined as well.

Meh, it happens. Surprised at it doing so with such a big team as Hibs and with 2 or 3 days notice so not last minute issues but its not at all unusual for 20s games to get pulled last minute especially when first teams play within 24 hours and there may be some overlap of players. Its a pain but Tynecastle's reaction seems pretty OTT. Not sure what particularly significant expense and effort anyone would go to for a 20s game but they will know I guess.

It's Tynecastle's first-ever Youth Cup tie, against one of the Edinburgh giants, it was always going to be a significant occasion... Going from social media and the local paper they had laid on stuff for kids/families, catering (there is usually no food available at Saughton Enclosure), printed a 16-page commemorative programme, and so on.

What you say about U20s games getting cancelled at the last minute is correct, though it's far rarer in the Youth Cup than the Development League tbf. What I don't think helps in this case is that no-one appears to be willing or able to publically say why the game was cancelled? If the Hibs squad's gone down with a vomiting bug then that's different to them simply wanting to play the game some other time... if a number of players have been called-up at age-grade levels (although there appear to be no such fixtures) then that's different to them having players on holiday or whatever... etc. etc.

What I think has made the whole thing look particularly bad is that Hibs hosted Hearts in last season's East of Scotland Shield final on Thursday night - admittedly at U19 level but it's not much of a difference - and still appear to be travelling to Rangers in the U20s Development League on Tuesday.

If Tynecastle have accrued financial liabilities as a result I'd hope that Hibs would meet them, tbh - out of a sense it was the right thing to do even if the rules don't demand it.
