Tweedmouth v Leith - why was it off ?

Recommended Posts

Car load of us had decided to go down and watch their first game on the basis it was a nice day and the prospect of a competitive game trumped the friendlies our teams were playing - and found out en route the game was off necessitating a quick detour to Eyemouth.

International clearance isn't - or shouldn't - be an "unforseen circumstance", and if it was an ongoing issue the game should have probably have been pulled at least the night before, and certainly not with around three hours till kickoff.

I'm not thinking of the likes of us who at least got a game in, but more in terms of Leith who will have no doubt gone to the trouble and expense of hiring a bus etc, and the league in general who have been made to look a bit diminished by this sort of thing happening with their newest member...

Maybe they were simply unaware about clearance being required if they've always just played under the FA banner previously and used English based players but you'd have thought they would have had a few players over the years who had played in Scotland and then played for them who would need clearance. It applies to all, from kids teams right to the top level.

There's no way a Berwick club would not know about international clearances.

This I remember Berwick having similar problems with their English based under 19 players a few seasons back.
