There is more chance of me winning the lottery than Wick or Brora getting to the bottom of the table anytime soon. Getting the pyramid going is really simple, just don't try to cover every possible but hugely unlikely eventuality until it happens, then deal with it. And f**k the North East teams, they have most of the money and conspired to stop the very worthy Banks o Dee getting a promotion last time because they thought they might be a threat with their fancy facilities, and let in Formartine who played (postponed) in a bog for the first few years and the utterly useless Strathspey Thistle instead, who I'm sure would be much happier in the Super League if they could survive the pace. Now we have the Cove tramps begging to borrow pitches for yet another year while spending a fortune on players without even having planning permission in place for a pitch.

Probably true regarding Wick & Brora, but what if Clachnacuddin faced relegation ? Given the club's tradition, there is no chance that they would 'move' east and join the juniors.

But Clach would only get relegated if there was a league below to be relegated into - if that were a 'junior' league then Clach would go there, like Inverness City are currently. We should scrap the stupid distinctions between senior, junior, amateur and welfare clubs anyway and just have football clubs.

Exactly this.

I absolutely agree the distinction should be scrapped, for the benefit of all clubs and fans. So why don't the North Juniors collectively approach the SFA saying that this is their wishes. Until some Junior Clubs and their fans make it clear this is what they want, and they seek SFA intervention, nothing will happen.

As a wider issue, I am always astonished that fans of the leading East & West Juniors, have no ambition to see their team play at a higher level, and instead want status quo !  Generally, fans of most non-league clubs in England, want progression, not stagnation.

Is it their wishes? Loss of blazers will be a limiting factor as well.

Big fish in small pond spring to mind.

This has been discussed a lot on FitbaNorth, there's only a handful of clubs below tier 5, that have the requirements to play at a higher level. Halkirk, Banks O'Dee and Aberdeen Uni are the only clubs with the HL requirements.

The most likely scenario is that the Highland league reduces it size to 16 and the North Super League expands to 16 with promotion and relegation, whilst the North Division one East and West act as tier 7 with the North Caley League acting as a North Division One North as it were.

That Would leave:
16 (Highland League)
16 (Superleague)
8 (North Caley) - 10 (west) - 11 (East)

Plus Golspie Sutherland, if they installed floodlights. Also, with council backing, and a modest upgrading of The Dammies (ground), Thurso FC could also attain the required standard, and has a large enough catchment area (and town population) to do well.

In terms of logistics and finance, the above makes sense if a North pyramid is ever to be achieved, thereby ending the current HFL "closed shop" . However, promotion to the Highland League from the "East Super League", and from the "North Caledonian West/East League" must NOT be compulsory. It would be insane of the SFA to force a club to take promotion against its wishes/ability to do so, especially if the 'bottom' HFL club doesn't want to be relegated !

I would guess from your various posts that you are not Scottish. Odds on most of the North Juniors are happy doing what they are doing and are not that keen on the idea of driving to Wick or Fort William for a game. Their average support is a man and a dog, so it's mainly about participation for the people involved rather than pleasing a paying fanbase.
