There should be a P&B "Last Man Standing" contest some time. No way am I going barefoot though.

Bugger that.

I was sparring yesterday and the trained fighters were taking me apart.

Give me a year or two so I at least know how to block.

Oh I never bothered with blocking and ducking etc much. Get some long arms and fight people with shorter arms is my advice.

Are there classes for older people? Asking for a friend.

I'm 38 but the class that I attend is for all levels. I don't think age will come into it if you want to learn.

Competing may be another matter though as you'd be up against younger, quicker guys.

Age 5 upwards generally. No limits at the other end of the age scale in my experience.

Yep. Plenty folk go just for the fitness and self defence aspects.

I'd like to compete but will be nearing 40 by the time I'd be anywhere near ready.

Hopefully I'll get to a level where I'm a decent sparring partner for the younger competitors.

I'll fight you if you want to meet up for a bare knuckle at some point, you will probably win.

There's nothing stopping you competing at that age Andy if that's what you want to do. Plenty of guys in their late 30's/40's fight at inter-club events. There are usually a good few clubs with "older" (horrendous phrase) competitors having their first bout.

If you can get to a level you can hold your own when sparring with the younger guys who are looking to compete then you should speak to your trainer and see if he can find an opponent of similar age/level at another club.
