Despite taking place after the brand split, this PPV will be the last to feature pre split storylines. WWE to continue 2016 with decent wrestling and a lack of any real depth in their story telling (especially for the mid card titles). Vince McMahon has named Shane McMahon the commissioner of Smackdown and Stephanie McMahon as the commissioner of Raw. Next week on Raw they'll have to announce who their General Manager will be for their show. I doubt this will have any influence on Battleground but worth adding as you never know. Battleground sees Randy Orton return to our screens after a long absence, he'll be looking to hype his blockbuster match against Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. Lesnar fresh off of winning a real fight against Mark Hunt at UFC 200. It's interesting to see John Cena having friends for the first time in forever. Also it looks like our US & IC champs will keep their respective reigns intact unless WWE really decide to push Darren Young (I hope not, he's shite). Our Shield dream triple threat match is the main event. I assume many will be disappointed that this is taking place on a B PPV but at this stage there's really no other time for it as they'll be going separate ways thanks to the draft. John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs The Club. Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens. Dean Ambrose (C) vs Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship. That top three matches looks great, and the women's title match would make it a show I'll watch. Rusev vs. Ryder looks like a potential candidate for worst match of the year on paper.
