Cassano has apparently retired

daft old twat - citing "family reasons" by all accounts - press conference in a couple of hours to reveal all the exciting details

nice change for HV to be  a laughing stock before the season starts rather than faff about waiting for twenty-odd winless games up to February, mind - very thoughtful (Atalanta - I'm still laughing at you)....

it is - however - heartening to learn that Hellas have learned an immediate and salutary lesson from the abortive Cassano stint at the SM'AB - now reputedly mulling over an offer to Alberto Aquilani (only just turned 33, mind - a positive pollo di primavera) who's had his contract with Pescara cancelled after spending last season titting about at Sassuolo

if anyone's got any aging Italian relatives after a big payday with a minimum of effort, you know where to send 'em - f**k's sake...

couple more potential acquisitions on the cards for Hellas - goalkeeper Federico Marchetti from Lazio (good move - I suspect that whoever's in sticks is going to have a busy season so it could do with being someone halfway decent), and 20 year-old midfielder Rolando Mandragora, currently stuck in the youth team at Juventus and looking for more playing time....

Lazio now reported to be looking at Serbian 'keeper Boris Radunović, on Atalanta's books and currently on loan with Avellino - only 22 mind - too young and far too inexperienced for a starting replacement for Marchetti ???

Marchetti now looking odds-on to stay with Lazio (who are currently scouring the Balkans for someone earmarked to be Marchetti's back-up - see above, and also Georgi Kitanov at CSKA Sofia), so Hellas turn their attentions to Marco Silvestri who's turned in 100 odd appearances for the White Shite over the last couple of seasons; clearly too good a player for those arseholes, the signing would make Hellas stronger and Leeds weaker - double bubble - do it, do it !

Cassano is a riot. Such a shame. The talent he had could certainly have taken him places. Interesting that he said in a relatively recent interview that his biggest regret was not listening to Totti and fuckin off to Madrid

West Ham apparently agreed a fee with Lazio for Balde for just under £30 million but would be really surprised if he ended up there.

Leiva has come into Lazio, and reportedly on around £100k a week.

With Biglia already going, and it looks like Balde will move this summer, I am wondering if the likes of Savic/Immobile/De Vrij might look to leave.

That would be some signing for West Ham. Thought bigger clubs would be in for him.

ahhh - this is what we want - more combustible, second-rate Albanians in top flight football !

Hellas are part of an unseemly and inexplicable scrimmage involving Empoli, Carpi, Augsburg, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Vitoria Guimaraes for 20 year old, six foot striker Rey Aldo Manaj, who's already played for four clubs and is currently on the books at Inter; binned by Pescara for "unspecified disciplinary reasons" looks like the hunt for The New Cassanno is underway - just one without any goalscoring ability or discernable talent (apart from the ability to take free kicks, by all accounts - probably five yard taps for someone else to then leather high and wide - whatever...)

Roberto Mancini has compared him to Mario Balotelli - great !

Inter Milan apparently had an offer accepted but it depends on Perisic joining Manchester United. A chance West Ham could nip in and steal the deal, but you'd guess he'd prefer a move to Inter.

Think Everton had a bid rejected for him earlier in the window as well.

job done - Silvestri signed on a four year deal (to be fair he was second fiddle to Rob Green last season, and only turned out in Cup matches); he's a curious looking fucker too, but he's sorting out some Tunisian Givenchy model whose sultry charms more than compensate for any shortcomings her partner may have - hope he's suitably pleased to have swapped Richmond Hill and Meanwood for and  Piazzale Castel San Pietro and Giardino Giusti...

after mooting the possibility of making a pitch for the services of the cream of Albanian football (no further news yet - don't hold your breath...), Hellas now look as if they may be cornering the market in high-end Liechtensteiner talent with a swoop (yup - a proper Jim White style swooooop) for Empoli midfielder Marcel Büchel. Solid Serie A player over the last couple of seasons at Bologna and then the Stadio Carlo Castellani before he - and his teammates - fell victim to Crotone's last-day heroics (well - and those of the previous few weeks to be fair, but you know what i mean).

Where next for gil Scaligeri and their search for as yet unidentified talent - Andorra, Trans-Dniester, Åland  - any other two-bob pallet and tarpaulin transit camp where the fourth-placed team is good enough to humiliate Rangers - who knows !

Latina will play in Serie C next season...I think...

If I've got it right, the owner of Fondi (Latina's rivals) took control of Ternana and then sold Fondi to the owner of relegated Racing Roma. He then renamed the club Football Club Racing Fondi Calcio. He then asked the FIGC for permission to move the club to Latina and again rename the club Racing Club Latina. This means that Latina will take Fondi's place in Serie C/C next season - I think. Fondi (at this point) do not exist obviously. Racing Roma, clearly, were not registered in Serie D.

Not happening. FIGC did not find any exceptional circumstances for changing the club registration twice in such a short period of time. Fondi remain, Latina do not.

Unlucky, etc...

just waiting for the coppa italia draw to be published in a sensible format so it can be copied here for your edification and delight - suffice to say those of you eagerly waiting to see if the Piacenza v Pro Piacenza derby was going to take place are set to be disappointed (PP have been drawn against the cat-scoffing cretins from Vicenza...)

not great but it does the job (view in new window/tab and zoom in is probably the best bet...)

highlights (sic) of some potential matchups:

chievo v hellas in R3

hellas v vicenza (semi final - heh !)

milan v inter (quarter finals)

juventus v torino (quarter finals)

bologna v fiorentina (quarter finals)

if you're struggling to make it out and want to know a specific team's matches, just shout....

and as a general point - what do folk think about these fully-fixed draws - any good, or is the unseemly fumbling in the velvet ball-bag still the way to go ?
