accies1874 Posted February 27, 2017 Share Posted February 27, 2017 I was just watching Match of the Day there, and I genuinely can't think of anything bad about Chelsea. If they played with the 3-4-2-1 all season, then they'd have had a great chance of going through the season unbeaten. From top to bottom they are outstanding. They've only got to go to Man United out of the entire top 6, too, as well as playing City at home. I do wonder whether we're seeing another shift in the dominant formation. Chelsea's formation completely counteracts the obsessed-over 4-2-3-1 defensively, and their energy with the wing-backs and central midfielders means that they can bomb forward and create an overload, but they're perfectly capable of tracking back to avoid being counter-attacked. The 3-4-2-1 does require specialists in certain positions, but Conte's proven that good man management can mould players into said positions. It helps when you have world class players, though.
