Would the second place/cup winner likely be seeded in the First Qualifying Round? If so, wouldn't it be better for Scotland if they enter at that stage? Get some nice extra coefficient points for pumping some shite from San Marino or Andorra, rather than having their first match in the tournament a tricky encounter against somebody Norwegian or Czech, for instance. Of course, this excludes a Hearts somehow managing to lose to Maltesers scenario.

From an Aberdeen perspective it would be better to jump to QR2. We've played in QR1 in the past 3 seasons which has meant very short breaks for the players and running out of steam towards the end of the season. It's possible that we could be in the Scottish Cup final on 27th May and playing in the Europa League on 29th June, it'd be barely even worth giving players time off. We'd be seeded for QR2 as well.

The cup winners (should it not be Celtic) would play the final on May 27 and then the QR1 game on 29 June. No much of a break. At least if they enter QR2 they don't play until 13 July.

Then again, if the cup winners aren't my team then I'm unlikely to care.

What needs to happen elsewhere now for a Scottish side to go straight into QR2?

From Wikipedia.....

If the Champions League title holders or the Europa League title holders have qualified for the Europa League through domestic performance, their berth in the Europa League will be vacated (not replaced by another team from the same association), and cup winners of the highest-ranked associations will be moved to a later round accordingly.[11]

Right now, it looks like Scotland are next in line for the Cup-Winners or league runners-up (if Celtic win cup) to miss QR1 if this happens.

So as long as one or both of the CL/EL winners have already qualified for Europe we should get the QR2 spot?

Think it has to be the Europa League they've qualified for.

Europa League:

Anderlecht: 2 points clear for CL groups, 7 points clear for CL qualifiers
vs.
Man United: 4 points off CL qualifiers, 6 points off CL groups

Lyon: 16 points off CL qualifiers, 17 points off CL groups
vs.
Besiktas: 5 points clear for CL groups, 11 points clear for CL quaifiers

Celta Vigo: 20 points off CL qualifiers, 21 points off CL groups
vs.
Genk: 11 points off CL qualifiers, 13 points off CL groups

Ajax: 1 point off CL groups, 4 points clear for CL qualifiers
vs.
Schalke: 13 points off CL qualifiers, 14 points off CL groups

Champions League:

Juventus: 10 points clear for CL groups, 17 points clear for CL qualifiers
vs.
Barcelona: 8 points clear for CL groups, 15 points clear for CL qualifiers

Dortmund: 1 point off CL groups, 7 points clear for CL qualifiers
vs.
Monaco: 4 points clear for CL groups, 20 clear for CL qualifiers

Atletico: 1 point clear for CL groups, 8 clear for CL qualifiers
vs.
Leicester: 25 points off CL qualifiers, 27 off CL groups

Bayern: 18 points clear for CL groups, 17 points clear for CL qualifiers
vs.
Real: 11 points clear for CL groups, 18 points clear for CL qualifiers

The Champions and Europa winners both go straight into the Champions League group stage next season. Teams in bold all look like they will qualify directly for the CL groups so we should be cheering them on. It could depend on how it works if a team who is in line for a CL qualifiers spot wins either competition and gets a CL group stage spot instead.

TL;DR:

For our 2nd place/Cup winners to go straight into QR2 we should be cheering on Anderlecht and Besiktas for the Europa and anyone but Leicester for the Champions League.

now we understand better what has to happen can someone update this for the last 4 in each tournament

Man Utd v Celta Vigo. Best for Man Utd to win as CV are quite far off the euro spots but Manure have already qualified for europa

Lyon v Ajax. Best for Lyon as they will qualify for Europa whereas Ajax are very likely to be champions league

Champions League is a bit of a write off with only Atletico not confirmed for next seasons champions league so far

Also Dons fans can now take more interest in the Europa/Champs League outcomes.

Lyon winning Europa would give Aberdeen a bye in QR1. Man Utd a good chance too

Aren't Lyon out?
