Blootoon87
Surely it's the result after 90 mins that counts?
realmadrid
No its the result on the night at the end of 90 or 120 minutes. Penalties don't count for coefficient. When Celtic drew 0-0 home and away with Milan then lost aet they got 1 point (in main competition ) and Milan got 3. Faddy88
Well Hibs have done it now at least, 1 extra point than I thought they would get for sure.
realmadrid
Point for Hibs. Hope they can now get through and Hearts can at least get one more goal if not two to get through.
milton75
'sake. Was really hoping we'd all go through tonight.
craigiemack
At one point it was looking likely that all of our teams were going to make it to the next round. I think Norway and Sweden have lost a number of teams and Poland are heading similar so might not be the worst of nights

ScoRoss
No shame for Hibs. Played well in both legs against a similar sized club in a similar nation. But obviously disappointing especially for the coefficient.Hearts however... Hasn't been a great start to the season. Booed off in the first game and now this. Is Neilson under pressure already?
craigkillie
It probably made absolutely no difference to the coefficient whether Hibs won or lost that shootout. They would have been pumped by Hertha in both legs anyway.
The Grass Is Greener.
I was pretty confident of beating Hertha, Craig.

HibeeJibee
Coefficient wise, tonight is not quite as bad as it might appear on first impressions. Would either Hibs or Hearts have got anything in the next round anyway? Perhaps a solitary draw? If you had said in advance that - for example - Aberdeen could win at home and draw away, Hearts could win home and away, and Hibs could lose both games, many would not have disagreed with you. In reality exactly that set of results happened in a different combination. Of course you have to add-in the shock of Celtic losing last week, but at least the won the return leg and progressed. In terms of progression only Hearts crashing out to the Maltese represents someone not playing to their seeding.
The_Gambler
This month Scottish clubs have lost to sides from Gibraltar, Malta and Luxembourg.... Essentialy 3 points have been thrown away, probably 3.5 because you could argue Hearts should be good enough to win away from home in Malta. Breaking into the top 15 is a few seasons away yet!
craigiemack
Breaking into the top 15 will probably never happen again unless a minor miracle occurs
Faddy88
Getting all those 3.5 points would have us at 2.75 right now and clearly in 1st place in Europe as of right now. Every country that's gunning for the top 15 has teams dropping points early to teams they shouldn't. We're in a much better position this season than Poland and Norway and about an equally good position as Sweden. Celtic really need to make a good run this year though. Club coefficient-wise they're about to lose their 12/13 season which will drop them way down the rankings. The past seasons they're been seeded basically the whole way to the group stages, next year the might not even be seeded in the 3rd round. Guest DAVIDB69
Looking at the co efficient our points each season is fairly static each year with no progress sadly.General rule of thumb now its almost impossible for non Celtic teams to get beyond the third qualifying round.Aberdeen will likely take a hiding from Maribor unfortunately.Celtic to get through a Europa league group stage is probably as good as gets so it would take a few amazing seasons to improve from where we are

We've beaten better teams in the recent past.
The_Gambler
Maribor aren't the same side they were a few years ago. Aberdeen have a good chance of progressing imo.
