djchapsticks
Ayr were certainly a stuffy side. Reminiscent of Billy Reid's Hamilton side in that they love to sit in and stifle. For our part there wasn't much in the way of creativity aside from Lewis Morgan who was miles and miles ahead of anyone else on the park tonight. All in all not a lot to be worried about. A lot of fans were disgruntled with all the high balls but it was obvious that Rae is trying different things out at this stage while allowing his team to gel. Thought we were comfortably the better side even if we struggled to break Ayr down. They'll certainly be more than equipped to stay in this division. Bobby_F
Surprised how poor Ayr were after their great win on Saturday. Not that surprised that McCall said he thought the game was even :-) but don't really remember Langfield having a save to make, whereas Saints had a host of chances, including missing a penalty. Morgan won the pen, with one of several superb runs. Not sure how good Ayr's defence are, but they just couldn't handle him at all. Aside from leaving it so late, only disappointment was Walsh who was pretty poor. Though I'm hoping it's because he didn't meet his teammates until yesterday. Very very early days, but a few promising signs - the main one of course being Morgan.
glenburn bud
Job done for us but far from what's required for the real games in the championship. Wee Lewis Morgan was easily the best player on the park tonight, he's going to be a star this season. 2 games 6 points will do nicely.
djchapsticks
Also, how many times in the last five seasons have we seen that sort of chance pinball about in the box and not go in when it's harder to miss? Nice to see one finally going our way tonight.
buddie06smfc
Good win, need to be scrapping wins in the league just like tonight. Ayr are a well organised team filled with rotten footballers.

Was this common knowledge on P&B? Hmm. I don't quite understand what else you expect of us other than to acknowledge that you're well organised. Which you are. Do you want us to praise the attacking nous you showed or how technically proficient you were? Or discuss all the shots on goal you had or chances you created? We've acknowledged that it was a poor match in general and on the balance of play, we shaded it. Nothing more nothing less. Stop being so precious. I think rotten is a very honest assessment of your team

That said, at this point last year, with Murray our manager, you'd have beaten us - so there are reasons why we're quite happy at scrambling an injury time winner against a team - even if they are short of players and playing poorly. Kitty_Boy
Rotten is a little unfair, although St. Mirren definitely deserved the win on the balance of chances created. Thought they improved immeasurably when Sutton went off. Our biggest threat was down the flanks, with Paddy Boyle recieving the ball in space with some wonderful cross field balls, unfortunately his delivery let him down on a number of occasions. Biggest concern was how poorly we defended set pieces and that was always likely to lead to St. Mirren making the break through - we missed Adams in the second-half in that regard. Fair point. I think maybe I felt you guys were so poor because I was expecting a lot more with you having beaten an SPL team so comfortably just a few days ago. flyingscot
Rotten is unfair. Ayr were not great but they were stuffy, sat deep and well organised. We weren't great and struggled to break them down, bar Morgan who did it on his own. The late goal was a bit of a kick in the stones for Ayr but i think we more than shaded it and looked the more likely to score as the game went on. The penalty looked like a decent strike but a good save.

yorkshirepud
"Ayr came to kick us off the park.."St Mirren had 16 fouls to Ayr's 7. Midden fans are gonna be worse than Pars fans were last season.
conley
There is a difference between kicking people of the park and being aggressive. All managers like their players to show aggression. Alex Rae himself was a very aggressive player and im sure he will not accept anything else from the teams he puts out.To say that Ayr United turned up last night to play for a 0-0 and kick Saint Mirren of the park is a clear indication that Lex has no idea what he is talking about.Football is a physical and contact sport.
