Is the rumour correct, that after 2016/17, the SFA will withdraw participation in the Scottish FA Cup from all clubs, senior, junior and amateur, who do not hold a current SFA Entry Level Licence for 2017/18 ?

If so, the only licensed clubs who are not (currently) playing in the "pyramid", namely Banks O'Dee, Golspie Sutherland, Linlithgow Rose and Glasgow University, would retain the right to participate in the Scottish FA Cup.

Does anyone have any further information about this ?

This is our year

Suppose you boys have to get the monkey off you back. Going into the Premiership with the Petrofac as your biggest achievement doesn't really look that good

Couple of years ago there was an SFA AGM vote on stopping unlicensed clubs entering from this summer... It didn't pass in terms of qualifiers, and indeed last year the Amateur Cup was added to the list of eligible tournaments.

However, the SFA member clubs had until this summer to get licensed - which is why everyone except Newton Stewart plus St Cuthbert Wanderers dashed over the line during the last year or so. St Cuthbert are OK anyway, as they won the South of Scotland League. It will be interesting to see if Newton Stewart are excluded.

There is the separate matter of licenses being dependant on "commitment to the pyramid system" or wording along those lines. Linlithgow Rose got an undefined dispensation, as they were part way through when that requirement came in, and the same would apply to Banks o'Dee although they want to get into HL and can't (as with Golspie). Girvan and Glasgow Uni were both existing SFA members but aren't currently in the pyramid.

Presumably Saturday 13th August will be Preliminary Round day (since the SoSFL's fixture list has left a blank that day). That also corresponds to the same Saturday that was 1st Preliminary Round day last season.

I leave HibeeJibee to do the maths whether more than one Prelim round will be needed this season.

Last season it was two : 31 teams entered at R1 proper, so to whittle down the other 15 to just the five extras needed meant a 1st Preliminary Round of five matches + five byes, and a 2nd Preliminary Round of five matches. Those were played on Saturday 15th August 2015 and Saturday 5th September 2015 (plus a replay on Saturday 12th Sept), before R1 proper which was on Saturday 26th September 2015. This season's R1 day is the corresponding Saturday - 24th September.

As far as I can see, this season it will be:

R2: 10 league two teams+ Cove, Formartine, East Stirlingshire and Spartans, 18 winners from R1

Then there has to be 36 teams in round one.  I'm no sure how they are going to do it.

There are 40 licensed teams who will enter before round two.  16 from the Highland League, 14 from the Lowland League+ Burntisland, Coldstream, Edusport, Threave, Wigtown & Bladnoch, Banks O'Dee, Linlithgow, Girvan, Golspie and Glasgow University.

Then another six teams have definitely qualified by winning a league/cup: Leith Athetic, St. Cuthbert, Beith, Bonnyrigg, Auchinleck and Colville Park.  Uncertain just now if Newton Stewart will retain their place in the cup having failed to get a licence so far.

That's 46/47 teams that need to go down to 36 in the first round.  Too many licensed teams for them now to simply put all the unlicensed teams straight into the preliminary rounds.

Also possible for them to change the number of teams that get a bye into round two.

Thanks Stanley.

So the mathematics could work out as :

46 (no Newton Stewart), all-in one preliminary round :

20 clubs play 10 ties, 26 byes => the 36 needed for R1.

47 (with Newton Stewart), all-in one preliminary round:

22 clubs play 11 ties, 25 byes => the 36 needed for R1.

or if they want to 'punish' the non-licensed by making them have an extra round, there'd need to be two preliminary rounds :

46 (of which 6 non-licensed), two preliminary rounds :

Prelim 1 : the 6 non-licensed play 3 ties.

Prelim 2 : 43. 14 clubs play 7 ties, 29 byes => the 36 needed for R1.

47 (of which 7 non-licensed including Newton Stewart), two preliminary rounds :

Prelim 1 : the 7 non-licensed. 6 clubs play 3 ties, 1 bye.

Prelim 2 : 44. 16 clubs play 8 ties, 28 byes => the 36 needed for R1.

According to p2 in the Lowland League fixture-list document issued today (which also confirms the dates pieced together previously)

http://slfl.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/The-Scottish-Lowland-Football-League-Season-2016-17-Fixture-List1.pdf

their clubs enter at the points you would have expected previously: their top 2 (inserting East Stirlingshire in Edinburgh City's stead) in R2 and the rest in R1. Assuming it is the same for the Highland League then unless there had been some reorganisation higher up the tournament 30 of 36 places in R1 would be occupied by HL & LL clubs.

However there are another 10 licensed clubs eligible to enter in R1; and 6 qualifiers - and maybe Newton Stewart - entering too. Something will have to give somewhere.

Newton Stewart will be in the preliminary round. They have an inspection in August for the licensing. There's not a lot left to do for it to be obtained.

They must have it for 2016/17 season though.

Do you know what needs to be done still? I thought there was quite a bit of work required to the changing rooms, a stand and enclosing the ground?

The ground is enclosed now with netting and the insides have been having work done. Medical room has been completed and the PA system is awaiting delivery and install.

External bathrooms have installed.

Interiors has been deep cleansed, painted and freshened up and work done on resolving plumbing issues.

The covered stand is awaiting to be built. Awaiting the council signing the plans off and then work will commence.

The ultimate aim would be to have a new clubhouse/changing facilities but that would be down the line.

From the previous SFA visit the concerns had at that point have been met with and dealt with.

That all sounds pretty positive! The club doesn't seem to have much of an on line profile so good that you can get some information out there

Do we enter at same time as other Premiership sides or do Dundee Utd? Can't recall if its this or the old league cup format that had Hearts enter earlier than the rest of the Premiership last year.

16 teams enter in round four.  12 teams from the Premiership plus the top four in last season's Championship so both Rangers and Dundee United enter at the same time as the rest of the Premiership sides (along with Falkirk, Hibs and Raith).

Yes, and this is something that we are looking to address.  I previously looked after the clubs twitter page, but due to work commitments etc I didn't have the time.

The clubs FB page is updated every few days, but it has been created as a personal profile and not an open page for some unknown reason.

Still a long way to go, but the club has recently managed to have a few more locals on board, younger folks, with ideas and aspirations, so in the long run we hope to be in a good place.

Looking forward to this. Strange they are so reluctant on giving out dates for the draw.

It's not reluctance, it's a lack of knowledge

They have no clue whats going on.
