Actually,   he maybe could but like the Clyde fan above alludes to, is he that same player as 10 years ago?

We need to assess what the current issues are and what outcomes we're looking for.

Problems:

  • Defence is conceding too many goals through basic preventable mistakes
  • Defence is lacking in organisation and direction - needs an experienced leader, maybe a player/coach
  • Inexperienced defenders have issues with technique and strategy

Required Outcomes:

  • We need to concede far less than the current ridiculous 34 goals in 20 game ratio
  • Younger defenders need on-field guidance to improve their own individual performance
  • Defence need a more co-ordinated approach via an experienced on-pitch leader

Can Mensing be that man?   You could only really tell in training and possibly in trial game/s.    Mensing was never an "athlete" of a player and at 34y/o you'd need to see if he's still capable of playing 16-20 games between now and May, and, if he's capable of being that leader/mentor type character.

We have potentially a really good central defence for the future who could do with this few months of specialist mentoring in much the same way as Sandison, Stewart and Jack needed Kidd,  and Smith and Lawrence needed Fash and Davenport,  Marv needed Kenny Black, etc.

You could see all through the years young players improving for playing beside seasoned pros.

This is definitely what we need.

No, he wasn't even that player 2 years ago at Livi. I was quite happy when he got a red card, so he wasn't playing for a couple of game. He's slow and fouls a lot to compensate for his lethargic pace, only he doesn't get away with as many fouls nowadays because they're more blatant and obvious, cynical fouls in desperation to stop players getting away from him.

Imo Boateng looked better than Mensing when he was at Livi. He uses all the old tricks of being friendly with an arm round the ref to try and avoid being booked (Russell should try this instead of his confrontational approach) but he's just not got the legs now and doesn't get away with his desperately blatant fouls.

Worse than Boateng?    Man, that's really bad.

Boateng looked more clumsy with his fouls, Mensing's was just in desperation because he was so slow and left for dead all the time. And for a player of his experience to pass the ball back without looking towards his own goal was shocking. For Airdrie's sake you better hope you don't sign him. The only time I've been more relieved to see a player leave us was at the start of this season when Darren Cole left.

So are you pushing for Boateng to sign for Livi, I'm sure Airdrie won't be hard to deal with and I'm sure it would help heal relations between our clubs again?

So do we know if Kyle Hutton will be returning to us or are you guys keeping him?

How has he been playing?

IMO he's been a dependable replacement for our poor lamentable captain who got crocked by that big twat Jim Goodwin.

Sometimes he seems to go AWOL during matches, but on the whole I think he does what's required.

Although I would welcome the return of Fitzpatrick.

I am reasonably certain that Airdrie will sign or take on loan at least one centre back. Fans are rarely united in their views but I don't know anyone who doesn't think this is our biggest area of need. It is almost inconceivable that the Club don't share this view. A number of names are being banded about and I must admit I don't know all that much about them as I only study our players at matches. The one thing that is crucial is that we don't take someone in panic. The club must get this decision right. The fans will not put up with another cock up.

Being serious other than being linked with two players from qos and according to the sun mensing training with us. Are we anywhere near signing a centre half. Someone in the know must have heard something !

Thought that myself this morning - it's all gone very quiet.

Gonna take a deep breath and just let the rest of chips land where they fall this season. I think regardless of what happens with play-offs, it'll be too much too soon.
