Tony Watt on the verge of joining Hearts on a season-long loan. Good luck to him and Hearts if true, but the boy's career is following that oh-so predictable path.

He won't get near the Scotland squad now no matter what he does

Quite rightly - unless Hearts make a convincing push for the league title (that's what got Hartley, Colin Cameron etc into the Scotland fold IIRC).

With Negredo on his way to Middlesbrough i can't see Rhodes getting much of a run out in the premiership

Yep - unfortunately he'll probably be the 70th minute sub for Boro this season. Hard to see him tearing things up as it stands.

Middlesbrough was punting him around the Championship a few weeks ago. I think he'll start the season on the bench, not play, and quickly get loaned out to some team like Newcastle or Norwich.

Would be a shame if Rhodes doesn't get a game in the Prem but hardly surprising, he has been banging in goals for seasons now and no Premiership team has went near him.

What is it about the guy? Watching him play for Huddersfield and Blackburn he wasn't just a poacher, he scored all sorts of goals and could link up the play.

How is Stevie May doing? Another one like Watt who we had decent hopes for, I know he had a bad injury last season. It's amazing how many young Scottish players who look like they could be the part end up going down south and disappearing, or reappear up here at a Hibs or United.

Make a decent packet down South but achieve absolutely nothing in their careers seems to be the way to go.

its amazing what EPL money does to a team, rather than even give rhodes a shot they prefer to choose negredo (obviously barca didnt fancy high balls to him lol)

are scottish strikers really that badly thought of down south

Rhodes will firmly be in middlesbrough's plans.

They wouldn't have spent 9 million on him a few months ago just to sell him again.

Unfortunately he will be likely back to the championship on loan before the end of the transfer window . At best he will a capital one cup man Scottish strikers are not really considered good enough at premier league level but they are not getting a fair chance either

FFS :( . Did he sign for Preston or was that just a loan deal? I know Captain Hindsight will be along soon but looking back, would another year at the Saintees have done any harm?

Yeah, clubs have never spent over inflated fees on players and then found out they're not upto the grade.

How can he not be up to the grade when he has never had a chance in the premiership yet?

Rhodes was signed to score goals to get them promoted, would be harsh to send him out on loan or sell him.

It's not personal, it's business.

MHow can he not be up to the grade if he hasn't been given the chance?

Quite simply because he isn't good enough. Are you good enough to play in the English Premier League?

Why are you so desperate for him to fail? Are you that desperate to be proven right?

He's been one of the top scorers in the Championship for the last four seasons. Yes there's question marks over his style of play but given his record of the past few seasons you cannot possibly state as fact that he's not good enough for the league above.
