WILLIEA
Piece is not modern. I used it when I was a wee boy. I know that it must be at the very least 25 years old. Wouldn't be surprised if Dave is closer to the truth. When I was at secondary school in the late 60's I got a summer job at a building site up in East Kilbride. Every morning I took my " piece box " with me on the bus.
ScottR96
I'm 20 and have always said piece. My flatmate hates it though, and insists he had never heard of it until he met me.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dave is closer to the truth. It's a lot older than that. I am amazed that a Scotsman hasn't heard of piece = sandwich.
Shandon Par
Really? Rrreally? Rrrrrreally? This annoys me. "Really", said with a heavy emphasis on rolling the "r" at the start. Often to be found in conjunction with "Seriously?".
BFTD
Just wanted to add that I grew up in England in a household that never used 'piece', only 'sandwich'. I still knew exactly what a 'piece' was. jmo, did you grow up surprised at the amount of firearms people claimed to be carrying to work/school with them?

WILLIEA
Probably closer to 100 or even 125 years. My English teacher , Adam McNaughton wrote that song. Could tell you a story or two about Matt McGiin!

tongue_tied_danny
"A thing", ie describing some recent trend or cultural phenomenon as "a thing". When did this shite patter become "a thing"?
pandarilla
I quite often find these fads really get on my tits and then a few weeks later they're creeping into my vocabulary. The latest is probably obvs. Really hate it but can't help myself. In the end for the sake of my sanity I just have to go with it.
