They've announced a decent wage rise for the public sector but I'd have preferred more people being employed to relive some of the pressure on the NHS (for instance) instead of just a wage rise. Also, does someone know if the NHS pension is paid from the Scottish NHS budget or a national scheme because if we continue to increase the pension deficit by having higher wages up here, we will be storing up trouble for future generations. Your first point is bang on though. In addition to that Scotland costs more. If we had control of all income generated in Scotland together with full control of tax and spending then you'd be able to have a more complete response but for as long as we need to do what we can with what we have, there is nothing wrong with a relatively progressive approach to tax. This will cost me on a personal level but I think it is justified because I want to see decent public services and the option is to follow the lead of conservative run local authorities and hit some desperate areas really hard.
