Ligue 1 have rejected referee Tony Chapron's appeal after he was banned for three months due to kicking out at a Nantes player back in January...

They have also doubled the length of the ban to six months emoji102.png

He's retiring at the end of the season anyway. Seems he appealed to allow him to return before the end of the season. Dimwitted move given that his ban ran out on 1st May - 3 weeks before the Ligue 1 season ended. Stupid c**t.

Third tier side Les Herbiers have reached the French Cup final.

French Cup seems decent for the odd minnow getting a good run. Recall 5th division sides reaching the latter stages in the last decade or so.

Most famous one being Calais RUFC who, were it not for a dodgy penalty awarded against them in the 90th minute, would have probably gone on to win the cup. They had another decent run a few years later too, getting to the quarter-finals. Sadly, they went bust last September due to financial issues.

Reims will be promoted to Ligue 1 tonight with a win against 3rd placed Ajaccio. The other automatic promotion place is likely to be either Nimes or Ajaccio with one point separating them. Seems a good time to bring up last season when anyone from 1st to 6th could have been promoted on the last day of the season and the utter scenes from this game which saw Amiens jump from 6th to 2nd:

It is set up to give the diddies a chance. I think if teams from different divisions meet, the lower league club always has home advantage.

Unfortunately doesn't apply to the Final. Could be about dix-zero.

Reading BBC's article about Les Herbiers and French Cup's tendency for tiers 2/3/4 reaching Final.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43956998

Are the reasons given realistic, or do top-flight teams just not particularly care?
The large number of of clubs (at least 8000)and the lack of seeding will play are large part in the number of lower league sides getting far in the competition.
