Have you lot been to our Mantis's site

https://scottishfootballgroundswordpresscom.wordpress.com

Interesting & witty are words I would not use to describe him, but the site is.

Go have a gander, it's still early doors so won't take long to catch up.

He's a bit like readers digest, takes a while to come through but lots of amusing tit bits, who knows could trigger some other memories of your own.

Anyway make your own mind up.

"I joined the ranks of the groundhoppers instead.

You know, those weirdos that turn up at your games now and again. Beard, beer belly, rucksack, DSLR round the neck, pen, etc. We get one at Whitehill every week or two. They need two programmes – one to write on and the other to put into one of those evidence bags like the police SOCO’s use. And a badge. If they don’t get a badge and a programme they’re absolutely devastated.

They no sooner arrive at the ground than they’re quoting train timetables at you and checking if they need to leave before the end to get the 49 bus into Edinburgh to get the 5.42 to Preston or Nottingham or wherever.

You tell them to relax and have a pint over in the social club, because somebody will run them into town at the end nae problem. They can’t stop looking at their watch though. And they never watch the game, they talk all the way through it….."

I like groundhopping myself but know what you mean regarding the ones for whom every Saturday must mean a new ground. It's more like groundspotting or groundcollecting.

BTW, you missed out in your description the tyre neck blending seamlessly into their chins to create that perfect sausagehead effect.

Added another blog post today HERE

Um, that link takes you back to this thread!

http://www.pieandbovril.com/forum/index.php/topic/228803-insightful-site/

This is the right one:

https://scottishfootballgroundswordpresscom.wordpress.com/2016/02/07/motherwell-fc-fir-park/

I used to love the old wooden seats in the west stand, far better for sitting on than the plastic monstrosities. The South Stand was always twinned with the Arctic - even by May it always feels bloody freezing there.

Oops fixed.

At the women's game v Belarus you could sit in the padded ones in the directors area. Naebody was bothered.

Come on then, don't keep us in suspenders...

The handsome (rough) looking keeper in the Steelend team photo. I was gutted when I heard their fate. It was quite a sad story as to how it all went downhill in the end.

ETA good wee read about the defunct Fife teams. Its sad that apathy seems the main reason that the clubs are folding.
