Your three highlights of 2015

Granny Danger

Recommended Posts

1/ SLAB losing Murphy, Curran Alexander et al.

2/ Nicola Sturgeons performance in the leaders debates, in elections she was not taking part in.

3/ The meltdown of the Scottish political press. They cannot understand, we don't need them anymore. Or their lies.

Number 3 is your typical nationalist view of the scottish media, because they have had a go at your party over this past year and because they supported staying in the union everything they publish is lies.

To many nationalist's let anger and hate cloud their judgement when reading negative stories about their party.

I have yet to read as positive story in the MSM about the SNP, the parliament in Scotland, or even Scotland as a whole. If you can link us to one I'd be very appreciative.

Her husband voted for Murphy and hates the SNP.

A Lib Dem man rubbing his hands in glee (although he'll lie and say he isn't) there at someone voting for Labour.

And the Unionists parties wonder why everyone dislikes them so much.

Anyhoo -

1) The SNP tsunami in May. I stayed up all night watching Nothing short of policitial porn.

2) The lack of effect of SNPbad. Although Unionist politicians and hacks will tell you SNPbad is a way for nats to avoid debate, time and time again we see examples of the media regurgitating Scottish Labour soundbites as facts, without so much as a basic check. So eager are the media to paint the SNP in a bad light that people are leaving traditional media in their droves, such is the poor quality and obvious bias. More and more people have simply stopped believing what the MSM tell them.

3) Kezia's appearance on Question Time. Massive speech followed by UTTER silence. Not a whisper. If ever there was a metaphor for Scottish Labour in 2015, that's it.

1. The night of the General Election was a thing of beauty. Particularly seeing Glasgow / West of Scotland Labour-types getting absolutely chased was an absolute delight. I was in a couple of Glasgow Uni classes with a couple of aspiring Labour politician-sorts years ago, and they were arrogant w***s then, and I'm guessing they are now arrogant w***s now touting for PR consultancy business.

2. Mhairi Black's first speech to the HoC.

3. Sturgeon during the GE was great to watch. There's a photo I've tried to find, but can't, where she is just surrounded by folk, and there's an element in which this may seem to indicate a complete change in political culture re. political campaigning . Fair enough, critics will say it's all about presentation / superficiality etc., but there's def. something about the leading politician walking down the street and people being genuinely interested and feeling comfortable to approach for a smile and a photo. I may be naive, but f*** it, I like it.

The Sun are, or have been, broadly supportive of the SNP for a start.

No, I'm just throwing it out there. I know Dav through the student Union and he was, let's say, less than enthusiastic at his wife running for office.

I suspect he was a bit bitter that she's still on the Beer Bar honours roll for winning Women's Single Pint way back when.

Bit of a misogynist, is he?

1. A Conservative overall majority

A result that defied nearly all predictions, the first majority Tory government in 18 years. The night Big Ben struck 10 and the exit poll appeared, showing the Tories just 10 seats short of a majority...and then it got better! In hindsight, when you look back and see how far behind Labour were on leadership and the economy in terms of polling, you wonder why it wasn't more expected.

2. The collapse of the Liberal Democrats

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of time for some of their policies and I was actually a huge fan of the coalition, keeping the Tory far right in check. However, I know a shit ton of Lib Dem supporters on Twitter and they are the most awful group of 'holier than thou' party supporters you will ever see. So much so, that some were predicting that they would gain seats. The party also spent the last years of the coalition trying to distance themselves from nearly every government policy made and accused other parties of scaremongering, conveniently forgetting their 'BLUKIP' concept, a Tory/UKIP/DUP coalition with Farage as DPM. I remember Cameron being criticised for wasting time campaigning in Vince Cables seat of Twickenham but that turned blue along with every single LD seat in their South West stronghold. Pleasing.

3. The election of Jeremy Corbyn

Well, it's provided a hell of a lot of laughs, hasn't it? Corbyn's election, regarded as very much a 'leftie' by the British public, only allows for Dave to pull the Tories more towards the centre ground as the British public, by and large, I would say are very small c-conservative - Tony Blair appears to be as left-wing as they get!

Honourable mentions to the SNP who ran a fantastic campaign that demolished the Labour Party in Scotland and to Ed Balls, who in losing his seat, provided us with one last bit of hilarity!

The 10pm exit poll.

After a lifetime of "sigh" at this time, the catharsis brought more than a tear

The realisation after a lifetime of following politics that I can't name the leader of the Liberal Party.

The likes of Carmichael with his valedictory speech and others have betrayed what Grimond has handed down.

The continued positivity of our Scottish Government in the face of a continual but low level of "holding to account".

Some of the nonsense like the Tay Road Bridge grumblings and "NHS in crisis" stuff (E. Bradford) is embarrassingly shallow.
