Maybe Ayr should attempt to engage the local community and hold some sort of contest to design a new one?

Not sure how a new badge could possibly convey 105 years of spectacular failure, from a plastic franchise club formed solely because, erm, the previous Ayr clubs were utterly crap no-marks in the Scottish football leagues. Needless to say then that the founders have been spinning in their graves for decades.

In fact I think that the current, though completely illegal, badge displays their legacy of fail most effectively. Let them off the hook IMO.

For Airdrie, the solution was as simple as removing the shield. It took a bit of getting used to at first, but it retains almost all of the original design elements and I'd say about 90% of the fans were happy with it. Maybe Ayr could do the same.
