Guns N Roses

The atmosphere was superb in Barcelona on Sunday. Pleasantly surprised by the vocals, he kept it in his 2018 range, which was DEFINATELY the right thing to do. However, the set is very, very bloated now at 3 and a half hours. At least an hour of that is noodling or instrumental covers. Need to get that nonsense to f*ck.

Guns n Roses in the 80’s was the time to see them when they first hit the uk.

Often tours revolved around whether Axl could be arsed to show up.

Now I’d rather keep my memories of those times than pay to see a band just going through the motions for the pay cheque.

I’ve seen various members of GnR in various guises down the years in terms of projects that Duff, Slash and Matt have been involved with.

Duff and Slash solo stuff has been good playing small venues along with VR.

Never got to see them in the 80s, but saw them in Dublin last year. Underwhelming.

Not really "new" as such, given the tune has been around since the turn of the millennium in some form.

Still nice to hear them actually put stuff out though. Slash's solo a bit "meh" compared to the original by Robin Finck but it works fine.

They're putting it out on 7" with The General (one of the long awaited "Big Guns") as the b-side.

May have to order.

It's a wee bit better than Hard Skool and Absurd, but given those are two of the worst songs ever committed to tape by any artist ever, then that's not a huge compliment.

Oddly, I prefer the original versions of those ones from before Saul & Mick returned to the fold.

In it's previous guise as Silkworms, Absurd was like Axl doing the Prodigy.

All mad synths and such. The official version isn't great but it seems to actually go down pretty well live.

Perhaps is just Axl doing his Elton thing.

Thing is, very often pooree album filler type tracks really come to life when played live. With these "new old" GnR tracks that isn't the case. Which is a shame.

They're putting out a 7" of Perhaps too.

The draw of that to me is the b-side.

A tune called The General which has grown to a somewhat mythical status amongst hardcore Guns fans.

Bar a poor quality clip that someone recorded on their phone at some club back in 2010 (Axl turned up and played a load of unreleased material), it's never properly leaked. Had elements of Estranged but with an almost Sabbath sounding riff and Axl screaming super high over it. Load of orchestration on top too.

Even though he's hit and miss live at this point (He was unreal with AC/DC but never been the same since), it's just nice to hear more material from them. Given how long the band has been about (taking into account the various incarnations), they still have a comparatively small catalogue.
