mrman2011
Scotland failed to qualify for Euro 2020, one of the major problems is the development of young players and the amount of game time that they are getting in a competitive environment. The bigger team must be able to field (B/Development) teams within the Scottish system, Be it in the "42" or in the Scottish Highland/Lowland leagues. These teams would be Under 24 and will play at the same time as the first team and there would be a cap on how many players from the first team would be able to play Celtic for example could get their under 19s and play them in the B team and allow them to develop together and get used to the tough aspect of Senior Football, instead of going on loan and faulting in their development. Loans would still happen and will still be beneficial. Celtic could play in League 2, Rangers in Lowland League etc and form it from there, expand the Scottish League and improve the divisions of below, loosen the critieria for Junior/amateur clubs to join in. Kyle
I kind of get the thinking here, but I really don't think this will help develop international class players. In all honesty, we could probably field a 'b' team further down the league pyramid that would do alright - we've currently got 10 players out on loan and 4 or 5 other youngsters who have all featured for the first team this season who might benefit from being able to play regularly at that level. The current loan system benefits lower league clubs though, it will help supplement squads without a massive strain on their budgets. Development loans benefit the parent clubs too because those players can still play for the U20s sides. We've had some success with the loan system in place over the last few years - Stevie May is the obvious example, but aside from him, Chris Kane, Zander Clark and Craig Thomson have all benefited from their loans out and featured for our first team this season. I doubt any of those players will go on and get a huge number of caps, but they certainly look more than capable of playing in the top flight of Scottish football. vikingTON
Club football is an entirely different matter than international football, and in just about every possible way is superior to the latter. So nah, let's not ruin the game enjoyed for three-quarters of the year for Hamish Husband's fleeting hope of a foreign tournament jolly once a decade or so. Richey Edwards
What we REALLY need are O teams. Spain have Osasuna and have won two Euros and a World Cup in the past seven years. We haven't even qualified for any. Coincidence?
Hampden Diehard
Feck off. The top division could make a decent fist of running a reserve league but aren't interested. The thought of 200 bevvied up bigots turning up at the Shire or whatever where they can do what they because of a lack of stewarding isn't something that anyone wants. If the bigger teams want somewhere to develop their kids, get them to put the effort in to sort it out. The Old Firm continue to bring in substandard foreigners who are just good enough to batter the likes of Dundee United's kids into submission; are they likely to change that policy? I think not. Wilky1878
Aye, Alloa vs celtic b away from home. Celtic are playing that day so fans are at that. You are left with say what a crowd of 50/60. Also clubs lose out on revenue from away fans when they play them. Shite idea.
BFTD
Yes, Scottish football would be massively improved by giving the bigger clubs more incentive to hoover up even more youngsters that they've no intention of ever using. Paying these clubs for loans rather than signing their own players and selling them on later would in no way be harmful to every other club in Scotland. Clearly, the youngsters would somehow gain more first-team experience playing against lower level clubs in a big-team shirt rather than actually signing directly for them, and this (somehow different) experience would propel them to international level. Either that, or this scheme would be a lovely financial and competitive bonus for Rangers and Celtic, while actively harming Scottish football at every other level. Just why it was suggested a few years ago, in other words.
effeffsee_the2nd
fuckin terrible idea, as said above allows the old firm to hoard even more of the best talent . besides if b teams cant get promoted then points against them count in youre favour but their points againt you count for nothing. am i feck paying money to watch falkirk play celtic reserves in a "league " match
mrman2011
A lot of common "Rubbish" about B teams The clubs will not hoover up young talent, they will keep the young talent at their club under 23-24 of which if they are not to the required standard they will be experienced at SPL2 level (For example) and will suit for joining clubs in that division, as opposed to the current loan system where they are very inexperienced. For example John Rogers has played for Celtic B for 3 years and is available on a free, instead of have 6 loan games and reserve team football, he has played 70 games and is more experienced to SPL2 for the likes of Berwick and Annan to sign.
