The James McClean Sponsored Poppy Thread

Personal choice.

People fought to allow us to make our own choices within a democratic society.

Going to risk getting put on a list here - but the way the poppy and the armed forces have been politicised by certain sections of Scottish society is highly distasteful. Whatever happened to remembering peacefully and quietly rather then absailing down a stand.

They're maybe hoping the rope breaks and the abseiler gets killed so they have someone else to remember...

Pretty sure I said the same last year, and the year before that as well, but fair play to him. A significant number of innocent people in his home city were massacred by the British Army. You're hardly going to want to remember their fallen.

Wars brutal, everyone that's died serving their country deserves to be remembered, doesn't matter if they had a choice or not, but I don't see the significance in wearing a poppy to do this. Also when does this end by the way? Does this just keep going on forever? Why don't we also remember every other soldier that's died in every other war? Just seems like a publicity stunt from Sevco and like I said earlier it's ironic that they'll have these remembrance stunts and then go on to sing about being up to their knees in catholic blood.

The huge OTT stuff that goes on every single year, what other club goes to the same lengths in the whole of the UK? Pretty simple what they hope to achieve as well, to play up to their Quintessential British club status that is one of the main reasons behind why a lot of people support them.

I believe he doesn't hold England in high regards hence is position on the Poppy. A hypocrite who is happy to coin in from the country but won't respect its values and traditions...

Hearing stunning rumours that England and the British Army aren't the same thing.

What exactly seems like a publicity stunt from Rangers, why do you think this and what do you think they hope to achieve with what you allege?

Keeping thickos loyal to the brand by wrapping the club in a union flag and sticking a poppy on top.

It's a particularly useful tactic when targeting a demographic of cretins who are too stupid to appreciate any sort of nuanced thought around about militarism/nationalism and can be made to buy into a vision of national superiority through which they can vicariously attribute a sense of pride and achievement onto their own worthless existence.

What has this got to do with it?? It's fuckin cringey the way Rangers and their fans seem to be hijacking the poppy thing. The whole troops abseiling from Ibrox is just ridiculous. Then Rangers scarves with Lest We Forget on them. It's just not needed! As someone pointed out earlier, it's just a "look how British we are" exercise which is fuelled even more when those fannies across the city have their "political protest". What happened to the days when fitbaw was just fitbaw?? Certainly not when it comes to both of those muppets.

Fair play to Rangers fans they have their priorities straight in all the good work they do raising money for charities relating to Veterans etc.

When their club needs money to avoid dying they are nowhere to be seen.
