RISE - The "Scottish Syriza"

Recommended Posts

Is it RISE that are behind the 'Freedom Square' shite?

On a slightly unrelated note, the leader of the Scottish Resistance bumped into me in Marks and Spencer yesterday. I walked into him, but he apologised. Low self esteem IMO.

I think it's Tommy Sheridan who is the Freedom Square, HOpe Over Fear guy.

RISE are the SSP so will be a strictly Tommy free zone.

Correct, Rise have nothing to do with Hope over Fear or Tommy Sheridan.

The SWP are another group who wwon't be involved to any great degree because of their role in Solidarity

They should seek out a sponsorship deal with the manufacturers of Viagra.

Given Syriza have basically achieved diddlysquat in terms of what they set out to do

Which is purely because once reality meets fantasy land idealism, reality wins.

It's incredibly easy to sound off about all the things that should happen, until you actually have to govern.

They should use 'All Rise' by Blue as their theme song.

Much better with Alter Bridge.

They should only be allowed to eat rice, so as not to confuse their dyslexic members.

Stuart Campbell, who is now an SNP partisan basically because none of the other pro-indy groups can bear to be in the same room as him, has done the numbers on this and suggests that pretty much any split ticket voting is going to come solely at the expense of the SNP. But I think this ignores that as it stands the SNP are not going to be on a technically-not-a-majority - they're likely to win all but perhaps two constituency seats in the country, and thus are going to end up with a majority regardless.

It's not going to split the protest vote either. If you voted Green before you'll keep voting Green. If you voted SSP you'll vote RISE. There was never likely to be a merging of those two camps. The Tommy Sheridan Public Image Rehabilitation Project is going to pick up literally dozens of votes.

If this means that at least one non-Green left-wing candidate is elected, mission accomplished. The SNP will still command the majority they need to enact their agenda, but at least they might actually get questioned on it by a competent body.

I've posted on this before, vote for who you want to see win, pure and simple. That way, you walk out of the booth feeling good about yourself rather than worrying 'have I done the correct thing'.

I obviously want to see the SNP get a majority, but I also think having a bit more green or SSP representation about wouldn't be a bad thing. I wouldn't actually even mind a strong centre right party if it was pro independence, I think it's healthy to do so.

"Ve vill ask ze questions" will be the SNP response...........probably.

Don't really understand why this is needed in any way. The SNP are not exactly far left but everyone knows they have had an influx of new members likely to take the party in a new direction, most of the new mps are more left wing than their predecessors and they are under pressure to prove their left wing credentials in the next parliament. Why risk splitting the indy vote to achieve absolutely nothing when we don't even know what kind of policies the SNP are likely to produce yet?

Plus with anything like this it won't be long til we see the Socialism independence Respect and environmentalist party.

Let me guess. Are you going to drag up history to prove some sort of mewling, whinging point?

Don't bother. She is CURRENTLY in the SNP. Comfortably to the left of any other party in Scottish politics.

ETA: Since you're a pedant, I'll add - comfortably to the left of any large, credible party in Scottish politics.
