He'd been touted as the up-and-coming golden boy of Scottish football for a few years before he took over at Hearts, full of new ideas and modern coaching techniques. That always puts up the backs of the old guard, and there's always a good portion of folk who want to see somebody like that fail, as they don't think he deserves the acclaim he's getting at the beginning of his career. Combine that with his non-existent playing career, and I'd have been amazed if he'd received a glowing welcome. If Hearts were determined that he was their man for the future, they should have been aware that he was likely to struggle initially in his first time as the high heid yin. Eight months and out is the timeframe for an experienced old lag who isn't working out. There are several narratives they could focus on there, along with one goalkeeper reportedly having an excellent debut while the other had a shocker and some unsavoury stuff off the park as well. What do the BBC focus on to begin their match report? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42481455 Sometimes people over-react, like 7-2 in that Hemmings story, but there's a reason the BBC have a reputation for shoehorning Rangers references in where they don't belong. Who gives a f**k about Falkirk's assistant manager in the context of this game? Agree with that no one would normally focus on an assistant managers last game, different if it was the manager. As you say lots of other angles the could have based the report on from a Falkirk angle the focus should have been on them still being stuck in the play off position at the bottom from a Pars angle the fact that they have got back into the promotion play off spots. If they really wanted to have a Rangers angle they could have went with the former Rangers player getting the fake eyeballs thrown at him from the Falkirk fans which would have been more relevant than Jimmy Nicholl leaving! HibeeJibee Posted January 3, 2018 Share Posted January 3, 2018 Apart from having to move house 9 times in 1 year; being driven to training by 'armoured car'; grandparents taking their grandchildren to OF games to raise them as Protestants or Catholics; 'non-stop' chanting about the Pope and the Virgin Mary; Rangers being 'demoted'; not playing for Scotland (which he couldn't have done anyway) because of fear of the reaction as he's black; joining Celtic being a sign as he's a Roman Catholic; and the media pursuing him due to eating in a restaurant during Lent (I'm sure the restaurant bill story or curry chants may have happened but not for that reason) - all sounds accurate and plausible! There are journalists out there who get stuff from foreign papers, TV etc then punt it to papers in the country where the player is currently playing, or has played in the past. They probably go for the most dramatic translation of what they said too, although I'm not sure comments about armoured cars and the like can be lost in translation! No doubt if that interview was with a player currently at a club there'd have been a statement put out saying he was misquoted and it was taken out of context - the usual guff that fans are only too willing to lap up even though it makes little sense. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
lanky_ffc Posted January 4, 2018 Share Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) Outside of the Premiership there was a full card of football in Scotland on Tuesday including a couple of big derbies in the Championship, the top 2 in League One both away to play-off hopefuls and some intruiging games involving the top sides in League Two. What an embarassment that our national broadcaster didn't bother to cover any of it. ETA: Just saw there's a big discussion about this on the Sportsound thread.
