No complaints as to how the midweek games went. A win for H96, draws for Stuttgart & Braunschweig plus a defeat at home for Union Berlin against bottom club Aue. Dresden's win at home to Heidenheim also brings them into the mix.

Hopefully H96 can increase their slender lead at the top by picking up all 3 points on Friday night down in Würzburg.

I was at that game, my first game in Germany.  I had bought tickets for what I thought would give us a great view of the game.  However we actually struggled to see the match.  We arrived at the ground about 20 minutes before kick off and there wasn't a queue to get in, more a mass of bodies swarming around the turnstiles.  There was then a full body pat down and bag search once we were in.  By the time we got into the stand itself the section we had tickets for was absolutely packed and it was a proper terrace and not the rail seating I had expected.  We ended up watching it from near the front of the stand in the 1st half and then the back of the stand in the 2nd.  In hindsight I wish I'd bought tickets for the main stand so we would have had a seat.

Aue deserved the result I'd say.  Union were really poor and I don't remember too many chances for them.  The atmosphere was great and of course getting to enjoy a beer at the game was good.  I've got a couple of Union Berlin plastic beer cups now.  We actually left 10 minutes early to avoid the crowds getting back to the hotel which was practically the other side of Berlin.  An enjoyable experience but I certainly learnt a few things if I get a chance to go to a game in Germany in the future.

Duisburg throwing the league away in the third tier with 2 wins in their last 8. Going to the game against Sonnenhof Großaspach on Saturday so hopefully they can turn their fortunes around.

Won 2-1 after going 1-0 down. Game was mediocre, SGS looked alright in the first half but nothing in the second after their goal which trickled through the goalkeeper. MSV hit the post and the bar in the second half, but there were some #szenen at the end when MSV scored what would be the winner.

Results went in their favour and they're back to 6 points clear with 6 games to go. Wir lieben Duisburg Weiß-Blau , Für immer MSV!

Big result for H96 today in their quest to go straight back up to the top league with a 1-0 win over local rivals Eintracht Braunschweig.
Security & police presence not quite as heavy as the game in Braunschweig, but still very noticeable with water cannons / helicopters etc. in place. Not a classic game, but H96 well worth the 3 points courtesy of a Nicolas Füllkrug header on the half hour mark.
Really good atmosphere inside the stadium, despite ca 6.000 seats being left empty due to segregation. Result puts H96 back at the top of the table, 2 infront of Braunschweig and Stuttgart (who play on Monday).

Next up a magical mystery tour to Aue next to the border with the Czech republic.

I take it there is some 'history' between the two sides ?

Was in Hamburg earlier this year when Dynamo Dresden were in town. Nothing of note in the stadium but a big police presence in the city and lots of sirens before and after the game. I understand Dresden have a reputation. Never witnessed any trouble though. Don't see much in pubs !

Only trouble I've seen in Germany was at Cologne. And that was just the Cologne fans fighting with the police for some reason. No away fans involved. Was a bit close for comfort though ! The German police don't mess around btw. Hit first, ask questions later....

The Gladbach fans are always escorted in and out of Köln due to the hatred between both sets. A few videos on YouTube showing you the trams going to the stadium with Gladbach fans on it with Kölners launching bottles at them.

then there's this, when Xhaka scored a last minute winner against Köln at Borussia Park, the Köln Ultras went on the field and a few gladbachers got on to kick f**k out of them for it, amazing video to watch

I also remember seeing the Cologne v Bayern game being abandoned a wee while back as it was the day Cologne got relegated and they just went mental. Let off loads of black smoke bombs and invaded the pitch. Mental.

No idea what has happened to Werder, they've been Shite for years but the last few months they've been cracking! I used to love Max Kruse when he was with us, now he looks like a total fanny with that haircut now, he's a shadow of the player who left us for Wolfsburg but mind you, we got Stindl in to replace him and now he's our Kapitän Fantastisch.

I do like Bremen. Probably something to do with the brilliant day we had with a bunch of Bremen fans there about 5 years ago. We were in a wee pub in town (rather early !) and the barman asked a casual question about where we were from. When they heard we were from Scotland, they all seemed to want to talk to us. There was a lot in the news at the time about the upcoming independence referendum. We ended up having a brilliant time with a load of great people. I do find that about Germany. Generally very friendly and welcoming people.

Really good Derby today between Bremen and Hamburg. Saw Bremen lose to Monchengladbach in early February and to be honest I thought they looked like relegation material. What a turnaround though since then.

Yip, Bremen are not just safe, but can now think about challenging Cologne, Freiburg, Hertha for a Europa League spot.

Going back to the Braunschweig / Hannover rivalry. Historically there's always been some rivalry between both cities.

Both teams were founded in 1895/96. Not up to speed as to what leagues both teams played in prior to 1963 which was the start of the Bundesliga.

Since then both teams have had a sort of Partick Thistle type existence (although Braunschweig were champions in 1967 / Hannover won the DFB Pokal in 1992).

Having not grown up with the rivalry, it's a bit difficult to interpret how much it means to some people. I do get the impression though that there are a lot of fans on both sides who "hate" the other club rather more than they "love" their own, in particular with the armchair fans.

The 2 derby games that I have been to, have noticed that the "old skool" clowns make an appearance (think 50 - 60 year old NGE / Section 'B').

Wolfsburg is also local, indeed very close to Braunschweig, but neither H96 or Braunschweig considers them to be a rival due to their lack of history / tradition.

They were both in the Oberliga Nord prior to the start of the Bundesliga and one of the Oberliga's that became Oberliga Nord post WW2. HSV won every Oberliga Nord title from 47/48 to 62/63 except 53/54 when Hannover 96 won it.

A long, long day on Saturday. 480 mile round trip on a supporters bus to Aue (ca. 15 miles from the Czech border). Only to see Aue get an equaliser in the 94th minute![emoji35]!

H96 off to a good start, going 1 up after just 3 minutes with a goal from Waldemar Martin. Aue (fighting for their BL2 status) brought it back to level half an hour later. Martin Harnik bagged his 15th league goal of the season to restore the lead, but H96 were unable to close things off, and Aue's equaliser was the last kick of the match. Philip Tschauner the H96 keeper needs to improve his time-wasting skills, since it was his over the top faffing about that resulted in 4 minutes getting played in the first place.

The Erzgebirge Aue stadium is currently being rebuilt (converted to enclosed on all 4 sides), so looks like a building site just now.

Following the games yesterday, Stuttgart (play tonight against 4th place Berlin) are 1st on 57 points. Braunschweig & H96 also on 57 points with poorer goal difference.

Next up at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf on Sunday. Will post details of the run-in, once the Stuttgart-Union Berlin result is known.

I appreciate that Derek Rae has gone to the effort of learning the correct German pronunciation for the players, ref, stadium etc but his constant overuse of all their names is driving me mad. He's clearly trying to practice his German.
