Dortmund is fine for a couple of nights, they've got an absolutely massive nightclub called Rush Hour which is worth a visit.

What the pub just up from the train station called in Dortmund down stairs is the whisky drinkers bar but stairs is huge with live bands . We were there a few years back and once they found out there was crowd in from Scotland the band started playing all the Scottish songs like the proclaimer and big country  great night

The VfB Lübeck game for that weekend has been set for the Friday evening. As AJ mentions, your best bet is the St. Pauli II - Oldenburg game, which will be at the Stadion Hoheluft (one of the oldest stadiums in Germany).
Oldenburg have a good few pavement dancers / handbags merchants in their support, so will likely be as many police there as fans!

Just back after an enjoyable trip to Norwich for yesterdays friendly. As with the previous weeks game against Halle, H96 started well going 2-0 up after 12 minutes, then 3-0 just after half-time. 2 goals from Wes Hoolahan gave Norwich some hope of salvaging a draw, but H96 ran out deserved winners. As with the Halle game, the inability to defend a commanding lead is hopefully addressed in short.

From a Scotland national team perspective, Whittaker had a fairly anonymous 1st half prior to getting subbed @ half-time. Dorrans came on in the 19th minute, played the ball in for Hoolahan's first.
Naismith was by far the busiest of the three, but despite a lot of touches etc. the final ball/pass/shot was always the weak point.

Next up the season opener in Kaiserslautern on Friday night. IMG_1469970832.133980.jpg.a15e418db5fd4cIMG_1469970859.767301.jpg.57ef626e1a4dc8IMG_1469970877.793190.thumb.jpg.d28e1d93

In an ideal world, promotion back to the BL. Whether that's doable is a different matter, as clubs like Nürnberg , Kaiserslautern etc. will testify.

Bookies have us at 9/2 behind Stuttgart at 9/4. Nürnberg are at 6/1, Kaiserslautern at 14/1, with a further 6 teams (Bochum, Karlsruher, Braunschweig, Fürth, St. Pauli & Düsseldorf) all at 16/1.

As to be expected a good chunk of the players from last season will have utilised relegation clauses in their contracts and moved off to pastures new. Zieler to Leicester, the 3 japanese (Kiyotake to Seville / Sakai to Marseille / Yamaguchi to Osaka), plus all the other expensive duds whhich came in under Frontzeck and Schaaf.

For those still there, then the main one is Salif Sanē, who at times carries the whole team.

Not been totally convinced by Philipp Tschauner who's been announced as the main keeper for the upcoming season.

As regards incoming players, then highest expectations are awaited from Austrian forward Martin Harnik who was signed from Stuttgart as well as Niclas Füllkrug (another forward) signed from Nürnberg.

BL2 season opener last night for H96 in Kaiserslautern in front of just over 40000 fans.

Trip to Kaiserslautern was a bit of a shambles, so ended missing kick-off and only heard the cheers for H96's opening goal whilst going through the turnstiles.

Hannover ran out fairly easy winners (0-4), against,it must be said, a somewhat disorganised & dissapointing home team.

Waldemar Anton doubled Hannover's lead with a scrappy goal just after half-time Two goals (the 2nd a cracker) from Artur Sobiech sealed the 3 points.

Betzenberg/Fritz-Walter-Stadion is well worth visiting, lots of atmosphere plus good sight lines, although the walk up the hill to it from the train station isn't for the unfit! Only negative was being unable to pay in cash at the food/drink kiosks.

Nurmburg take on Dresden later today, with Stuttgart against St. Pauli the Monday night game.

Next up for Hannover is Greuther Fürth at home. IMG_1470470270.067422.jpg.1b45aad185751fIMG_1470470423.923097.jpg.4c1d2eaf157199IMG_1470470438.073165.jpg.313e6a85518776

A good 3-1 win at home to Greuther Fürth for H96 yesterday in front of 38400 fans.

Iver Fossum scored midway through the 1st half, cashing in on an awful attempted clearance from the Fürth keeper. The keeper didn't do himself any favours for the 2nd, getting beat at his near post by Maier. Martin Harnik sealed the points in the 85th minute prior to Fürth getting a consolation goal in injury time.

Next weekend is the 1st round of the German cup. H96 play 4th division Kickers Offenbach on the Monday night. Unable to make it due to work.

Not any real stand-out ties. The DFB Cup is set up that in the 1st 2 rounds, as many of the lower league teams as possible are given home ties against teams from the top two leagues.

Dynamo Dresden against franchise FC Redbull Leipzig should be interesting though.

Blaszczykowski's gone to Wolfsburg I see. Is that a direct replacement for Schurrle?

Looks like it. He's been unfortunate the past few years with injury and being sent out on loan, but he's still a decent player.

In his prime he was twice the player Schurrle is.
