Maybe the bookies remember Australian's many other qualifying f**k-ups.

Still grinds my gears that they got to dump Oceania after whinging about how unfair their route to the finals was. Most nations that qualified would have taken Australia's route to the finals over their own, based purely on difficulty. Oceania would probably have an automatic place by now if they hadn't pulled that shit.

Considering the state of the country and they fact they narrowly missed an automatic spot on the last day, I doubt it will be far from straightforward for Australia.

Australia will beat Syria but not so sure about the play-off with whatever the CONCACAF side will be. Only thing in our favour there is, like the Syria game, the 2nd leg will be at home.

Then you'd be moaning about how unfair it was that somebody can qualify from such a shitey wee conference.

Maybe if it was Australia versus all the wee island nations, but Oceania seems to be a region that would deserve an automatic place at a 32-team World Cup.

Plus, if the Kiwis had a bad year, it would be entertaining to see how Australia could lose out to the Solomon Islands  :P

Happened before but not the Solomons (2nd last on this link)
http://www.ozfootball.net/ark/Socceroo/1988A.html The best the Solomon Islands have done in a WC qualifier was a draw but it was in Oz though (4th from bottom in link) http://www.ozfootball.net/ark/Socceroo/2004A.html

Fifa have announced that the World Cup will have four seeding pots... as opposed to just one group of seeds and three groups based on geography.

They will still make it so that each group can only have a maximum of one team per continent (with the exception of Europe where it is necessary to have a maximum of two in a group).

Someone has estimated the likelihood of each team ending up in a given pot on the link below. It's interesting as you can already start to work out the best and worst possible groups for teams.

If by some miracle Scotland qualify, we will almost certainly end up with Brazil, Spain and Ivory Coast.

Looking forward to the big one this Thursday - Syria vs Australia. The Aussies were pretty pish in qualifying but you'd think they'd get their act together for the playoffs.

They'll probably draw the 1st leg then win the 2nd with a 90+5 minute sclaff.
