Why would someone want to go to Walgreens on holiday?
Support big pharma and get some corn syrup laced food?

I'll admit I like to take a look around a local supermarket in a new place I'm visiting.  But just the once and not as an alternative to someplace like Epcot.

If anyone has a car I recommend the farmers market at Winter Park on a saturday morning for a bit of more local experience. I also recommend 4Rivers Smokehouse bbq food for lunch!
I know its big chain fast food but Chic-fil-a is excellent, as is Freddy’s steakburgers (just across from the outlets on idrive at the bottom).

Walgreens is my shop of choice in America for my late night beer and crisp combo. Where is becomes difficult is when the women are involved. That tends to lead to visits to make up and shit like that. I also usually bring Tylenol PM home.

Anyway, Orlando. Anyone stayed at any of the other Loew's hotels there? Is it worth a visit to any of the restaurants or anything?

Maggianos (sp) on International Drive is worth a visit.

Stayed at Rosen Inn International which sits right next to the massive McDonalds.

We visited walgreens the night before we departed to buy bin bags for our rubbish. Trying to get the shop assistant to understand me was frustrating. ‘Excuse me can you tell me where the trash bags are?’ Seemed to translate to ‘Tampons?’ To the hispanic staff member, even saw one of the instore bins pointed at the bin bag and she still didnt get it, a nice redneck translated for me. Walgreens is frustrating, Publix is my florida supermarket of choice now.

Publix is great. A weird experience, going with another six people all looking for only stuff to suit themselves.  Beer, make up, drugs, clothes, Halloween outfits, guns and food. But three or four times in a fortnight was a nightmare for me. It was about two hours per visit.

Walgreens is perfect for me, going back to my New York visits. Walk five minutes, get my beer for the night with a big bag of Lays and a couple of bags of sweets to bring home for friends. In and out in ten minutes. Not so easy in Orlando though. It's hard to walk anywhere!

Yeh you really need to drive. I don’t find it frustrating as many of my mates seem to but im not a big drinker so it doesnt bother me.
Is it just me that gets wound up by the Brazilian/Argentinians in the outlets? They do this thing where one stands in the queue for all of them and they keep shopping until they get near the front when the entire family cuts the line and then they all pay separate. Madness.

Just booked up for a week in November. 4 of us staying in a Villa and I’ve rented a Mustang for the week. Not planning on going to the parks at the moment other than maybe a Water Park. Nice round of Golf, NBA game, NFL game and whatever else takes our fancy. Can’t wait.

I’ve played Disney Lake Buena vista course, Falcons fire and Royal St Cloud, all reasonable golf courses and fun. You can get Magic tickets for $10 a person if its midweek, dont be scanmed into buying from the timeshare touts just get them on ticketmaster. Never been to an NFL game but i support UCF as my college team in the states (baseball mostly but check the american football results) they were the only undefeated college team last year, made to feel very welcome at their superb stadium and tickets $10-20 in areas.

We’ve got a choice of NFL game with Tampa and Jacksonville within driving distance (maybe Miami if the Jets are playing there). Shame the Magic suck right now but like you say, tickets won’t be that expensive. I always use StubHub or SeatGeek.

Right: looking for some different suggestions for something to do this year, within a couple of hours drive of Orlando.  Think we'll take the car up to Kelly Park and do the Rock Springs Run and have a swim in the springs one afternoon.  Aside from that we've got a totally free schedule - probably head to Universal since we've done Disney the last couple of years if we've fancied a park, and there's a few new rides/attractions.

Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do a bit outwith the norm that might be fun.

Check out the saturday night rodeo at Westgate River Ranch, bout 1.5hr south of Orlando.

Or see if the silverspurs rodeo is on when you’re there, just google, full of rednecks but a fun and cheap night.

When are you going? If its before mid sept- Check out a baseball game, Tampa Bay (tickets vary from $10-200 on the game and location- a good idea if you’ve got rain forecast as its in a dome, 1.5 hour drive) in the Major leagues or for a cheap night out, check out the Florida Fire Frogs/Lakeland Flying Tigers/Tampa Yankees all within 2hrs of Orlando, generally about $5-10 a ticket.

If its sept-oct- check out a yank football game? Ive mentioned the ucf football games here, they’re the top team in the area etc and tickets go cheap.

Celebration is nice to stroll about, you can hire a bike etc and go around the lakes (really beautiful wee town and scenery) etc. They have loads of events on all the time, just depends when you’re there.

Winter Park farmers market on a saturday is decent, just for a wee stroll in the morning, WP is quite a nice wee place to explore.

The zoo at Sanford is quite cool, they have rhinos, giraffes, poisonous snakes, bears etc and theres a splash area for kids, its quite a small zoo but a great day out.

Cheers for the quick reply. Will check out the rodeos.

Winter park is one of my favourite places to go. Sitting outside Pannillios Italian watching the world go by for an afternoon is a world away from the international drive scene which I'm not a fan of. Went to a music festival in winter garden a couple of years ago but they've moved that to November, it was brilliant.

Also like celebration, the golf course was fantastic.

Normally go to the opening game of the Tampa bay lightning season and seen the Bucs. I might have a look at the UCF American Football team.

We go the first 2 weeks in October, this will be the 5th year in a row so looking for something new to try out or somewhere new to go.

Im away last fortnight in Sept, always try to time it for last rays game. Do you ever go to Clearwater beach? Really enjoy a walk about there and stroll on the beach, im not a sit on the beach person but I like a stroll there.

Glad to hear youre a fan of WP, im the same only things I do on Idrive are the outlets.

Really like the atmosphere at UCF always made to feel really welcome!

Where do you stay? We have been to the Providence resort villas last year, returning this, emerald islands and windsor palms a few times each and then just in condos and hotels in LBV etc. Would quite like to stay for some of a holiday in Disney when the wee man is walking.

You mentioned you liked that music festival, keep an eye out for whos coming to the Tampa state fairgrounds, have seen some brilliant bands there. Daytona speedway is about 2hrs away too and if theres something on its a sight to see, huuuge stands.

Discovered a wee place at Champions gate called ‘First Watch’ that specialises in breakfast stuff, had some good food there.

Theres a similarly good breakfast place called Kekes who have one in WP and one just at Millenia.

Quite like Duffys sports bar in Millenia too, we tend to go for baseball post season games we wanna watch, 2for1 drinks and decent food, not too touristy either because its away from idrive.

Have heard gatorland is a really fun place to visist but haven’t been myself.

Prefer the Atlantic coast at new Smyrna beach but Clearwater is stunning. We stay just off palm parkway at the entrance to Disney.
Think I'll look to give a UCF game a go if I can when I'm there.
Saw Jack Johnson at the state fairgrounds last year and it was amazing, a bucket list gig for me - cool venue as well so will check that out, currently only Kid Rock playing in October. I'll also give the breakfast place at champions gate a look.
