Glasgow City Centre Crash

That's a good 100 metres, at least. Wonder how the f**k it could be knocking people down there and still gone far enough to crash into the Millennium.

Really is mind boggling, reports on Sky News of "many casualties"

Sounding maybe like the driver's had a heart attack at the wheel or something and it's just carried on out of control until the Millenium stopped it.

"Police are called to a "serious incident" in Glasgow where a bin lorry is understood to have crashed into a group of pedestrians.

Local reports say the lorry mounted the pavement and crashed into the side of the Millenium Hotel in George Square.

The Daily Record newspaper says the accident happened as a crowd of Christmas shoppers were waiting to cross the road outside Queen Street station.

There are understood to be fatalities and the casualties are estimated to be in double figures.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed there is an "ongoing serious incident" in Glasgow's George Square close to Queen Street Station.

Roads surrounding George Square, in the city centre, have been closed."

I'd be thinking along the same lines tbh, those trucks have an automatic gearbox so if the driver has taken ill then it would just keep going. Plenty of pictures of cars that have suffered glancing blows as it's ploughed it's way through the traffic.

Horrendous news.

Any engine malfunction (steering arm failure, etc) wouldn't have caused the vehicle to career down the street in that manner. Queen Street isn't on any kind of gradient either so handbrake failure can be ruled out. Would seem to point to ill-health on the driver's part.

Witnesses reporting that the driver was slumped over the wheel.

Such a shame.

RIP.

Mounted the pavement round about the statue and just went straight down Queen St. Pretty horrendous stuff considering how busy it usually is there, let alone at this time of year.

Hasn't there been a recent spate of terror attacks round the world using vehicles as weapons?

There was definately one in france this week.

This is the only post (on here or otherwise) I've seen making any connection. Unhelpful speculation.
