Scottish Cup 4th Round Draw

According to twitter last night the draw will take place in the week beginning December 8th in the Evening Times offices.

A few people probably saw me having a rant about this last night but I feel rather strongly about it, I was told that its possibly to try and attract sponsors? Are the ET's offering as it will be closed doors I imagine?

Have it in the social club of one if the teams involved and let representatives of all the clubs go along, the Evening Times will get their coverage as will Scott Campbell and the likes but added to that there are IMO to main advantages to this.

The press can get instant reaction on the draw from those involved while clubs and supporters can be there, it's a brilliant experience that having been to a couple it's a great buzz!

So the Holy Grail at present is sponsorless is having the draw behind closed doors the way to go when we should be doing everything possible to get people back to our level and to feel involved?

For goodness sake can the powers that be not realise this is our national tournament and needs to be promoted properly. If the SJFA can't be arsed then the get rid. What sponsor is going to come on board if they can't promote the premier competition.

I've said it before but maybe this is a way for the SJFA to try and attract sponsorship.

Having it in a Social Club is great for the club involved as they get a wee turn for an hour but sponsorship wise what would a sponsor get? A 2 inch column in each paper. The Evening Times usually give it almost a full page with photos and video link on their website. As well as the ET all the other papers will give it the same 2 inch column they will give it if its in the Social Club.

If potential sponsors are viewing the one they will want is the one with most publicity.

Nocko, I'm a wee bit surprised William Hill haven't thought about hooking this onto their sponsorship of the senior cup. They could get some great publicity by holding the draw in their own shops, using their Web TV channel to stream it and offering small value but big publicity promo bets. They'd do pretty well out of it in terms of publicity.

Guy's This topic has been a sore point with me for a long time. There is no doubt, the draw should be out among the punters, the people who pay at the gate every week, the people who keep this game alive. This stupid talk about, publicity, and attracting a sponsor when the draw is made in a newspaper office bears no water with me. Let's be transparent, get out among the supporters, let them see what this great trophy is all about. With today's technology, the draw can be texted/tweeted from a Social Club, to the tabloids within seconds. When my own club held the draw last season, we had a full house in the Social Club, and so the money was kept within the game. A newspaper office is only an excuse to sit and drink coffee, and dribble on like old sweetie wives, about the game, some know so little about. So I say to the boffins, start thinking, start considering the punters who keep you in a job, and get out among them, and I am sure it will go a long way to recruiting more folk on to the terraces to watch the game we all love.

Maybe the figures have not been right for the company - I don't know how much it costs to sponsor it. I do agree though about the publicity as I think the William Hill Scottish Cup has never had as much publicity since the days of Tennants.

We've spoke about this before and we will need to agree to disagree. I love the clubs getting their chance but tournaments need sponsors and sponsors want to know what they will get out of it.

Talking last night one of my mates working in Central Glasgow who popped round to witness the draw in Times Albion Street. He asked then would they tell him who his team had drawn. "Buy The Times" at 1-00pm was the reply. He was the only person there, and this was in the days before moblles or the net.

Of course 'nocko' would agree with Tam Johnstone as he is in the magic circle. As a matter of interest Nocko just how much do Wm. Hill contribute to the SJFA for the use of fixtures?:

My mate confirmed that there was great interest in Social Club presentation, and is sure TJ started out in Aberdeen withy 1st R deraw and proceeded soth to Dundee, West Lothian then on to Central and West of Scotland. Full houses all the road and it gave the clubs a chance to socialise over a pint. Today the clubs don't matter, but as said elsewhere it's time the problems were sorted out at the AGM. The dictatorship at Hampden need to be told what to do in some way to justify their huge salaries.

If the Evening Times want the draw then they should be asked to sponsor it.

When a sponsor is found.......which I know would entail someone at the SJFA lifting a phone, so fat chance............then they should have the right to host the draw wherever they choose.

In times like now when the cup is sponsorless (which is downright bloomin' scandalous) then the draw should be put round the clubs.

As I've said I don't disagree with it being in Social Clubs and that is also my preferred option taking the cup on a tour of the clubs but I do understand why they use newspaper offices.

Confused with an earlier post though about how I am in Tom Johnstones magic circle!!!!:huh::huh:

Sorry Nocko but that doesn't hold any water I'm afraid. Firstly because there is no sponsor to keep happy right now and even if it's in the hope of attracting a sponsor by saying "look what you'll get guys", it would only be so if all other avenues were being explored.

I know it's cynical of me but I refuse to believe that an active, forward thinking asscoiation can't secure sponsorship for a national event. It's bananas.

For me Mr J and the boys are happy to hide in a newspaper office away from moans of slightly tipsy junior fans.....or as they should be called their employers!!

Maybe I'm giving the SJFA too much credit here I don't know. But if I was a potential sponsor looking at this tournament I'd want to know what I'd get out of it.

I think the problem here Owen is that they don't have a sponsor but are giving exclusivity to someone who isn't sponsoring it and most probably won't. The ET do a great job but so do many others, why not have it somewhere public invite some potential sponsors and let them witness the passion?

Passion doesn't sell products though. If say Barr came in full time what would they get most out of? A social club with 50 folk in it for half an hour or a full/half page in a paper with online content?

While the lack of sponsorship is a concern for all the clubs, why is the SJFA showing a complete lack of respect to the East ,Fife, Tayside and Northern regions in the fact that for the 3rd round in a row the draw is being held in the west. I can't remember where the 1st round was drawn, (think) 2nd was drawn in West region clubs social club ( and that's the correct way), 3rd round in the Sun office (national newspaper coverage to all regions) and now the 4th round to be drawn in a Regional newspaper office. While Nocko states it'll have a full page with pictures what good does that do the other regions. Come on Mr Johnston this is THE SCOTTISH CUP not the West of Scotland. Nothing against the west clubs issue with SJFA
