Cowden v Rangers

Recommended Posts

The phrasing in the SPFL rulebook is something along the lines of "entitled to a postponement if three or more players who would have participated are on international duty."

Mohsni and Zaliukas are 2, so presumably the call-off is possible because they have boys called up for the under-19's.

That last bit must have been the clincher, as Mccoist is always desperate to blood youngsters into that team.

The SPFL confirmed to CFC on Monday afternoon that the match was postponed after Rangers applied for a postponement under SPFL Rule G7 which allows a request for a postponement to the SPFL if a club had 3 or more players unavailable for a match due to international duty. Rangers listed the 3 players as Mohsni, Zaliukas and Shiels. Shiels isn't in the NI 27 man squad but is on their list of standby players who could be called up if they have any injury call offs. Subsequently Mohsni has been suspended following an incident from the match v Hibs on Monday evening - he will miss 3 matches which I think would have included the Cowden game if it hadn't been postponed.

This is staggering.

Cowdenbeath should be kicking up a stink about it. I suppose the Mohsni situation was not to be foreseen. The Shiels one is incredible though. How can a situation whereby he's not made a 27 strong squad, possibly place Rangers at a disadvantage?

A truly shameful outfit. McCoist is about as discredited as is possible.

So they only have one eligible first team player missing? Didn't Dumbo get someone called up who will be missing for them next week. Haven't seen any greeting from Murray about it.

Shambles this.

Don't know about Dumbo but the Pars have one of their players away with the Scotland under 19s but their not moaning about it and just getting on with their games.

Shiels being on the standby list means he can be one of the three - formally confirmed to us by the SPFL on enquiry. Mohsni - depends on your point of view - SPFL made decision before Mohsni incident and subsequent referral to SFA took place. They of course couldn't anticipate that and a decision re any request for postponement needs to be made in a timely manner for clubs/fans.

The rules seem bloody daft in allowing stand-bys for huge squads to count.

The real issue however is that Rangers wish for a postponement, just in case there's a tiny chance that their colossal advantage might not be at its absolute fullest.

In fairness, plenty of their fans on here say the same, but it really is embarrassing stuff from them. It's just so ridiculous.

In a timely manner. Hmmm. Have seen alot of hastily re arranged games alot bigger than this game over the years.

Absolutely disgraceful by the sfa and the rangers.

New rangers, same old bias.

So first available dates are in November but you couldn't make up the complications. Tuesday Nov 4 - OK unless Rangers drawn at home in Scottish Cup as they would have to play on Sunday 2 Nov as Celtic are at home on Sat 1st. Wednesday Nov 5 - Police unlikely to agree as Guy Fawkes night is a busy one. Tuesday Nov 11 or Wed Nov 12 - Ok unless Rangers or Cowden draw their Scottish Cup ties at start of November. Replays will take place on either Saturday 8 Nov or midweek following that i.e the 11 or 12th. if replay for Cowden was 8th the Hibs game would have to cancelled - most likely only if we draw v nonleague side with no floodlights (perish the thought).

I haven't looked but why no possible dates in October?

So, all sorts of complicated chaos ensues from McCoist's cowardly idiocy.

It's ludicrous.

Is any of this a knock-on from Rangers postponing games because of the Commonwealth Games?

No.

Their mid week games in October are East Fife in the Petrofac Training Cup (originally postponed because of players on international duty!!) and St Johnstone at home in the League Cup which is getting played in the scheduled mid week for the League Cup ties.

We could have played East Fife for them and handed them the result. Postponing a game against East Fife FFS.

Why don't we just wait on the rangers deciding when they would like to play us.

Maybe their team bus has a prior booking on some of those dates, or perhaps fat sally has a course on learning how to be a manager which takes priority over a stupid game with some part time peasants.
