Parliament to be recalled on Friday to discuss air strikes on IS in Iraq in support of the US.

Westminster sources saying this was action was delayed until after the referendum because it might have swayed more towards a Yes vote.

They left nothing to chance did they?

My brother was in Iraq for the first war. He was attacked with Mustard gas. He was also there for the second war and that time he was attacked with Pepper spray.

He wants to go back again as he is now considered a Seasoned veteran.

I would agree with this, the government lost in a vote last August to go in against the Syrian government. People have had their fill of botched wars.

We are only calling it (Iraq) because we don't want to be seen helping the Syrian government, are we going to leave ISIS alone if they're not in IRAQ?

He'll need to take part in an asalt to really qualify.

Do they even know for certain that ISIS are basing their operations in Iraq? If so, where? What are air strikes going to achieve, particularly if they are anything less than absolutely certain about their location? It all seems like a(nother) vague cover to make it look like they know what they're doing and have a genuine concern.

The people we were funding in Syria are the same people we will be fighting in Iraq.

"Winning"

Incorrect. ISIS are a predominantly Iraqi organisation which cottoned on to the original Syrian revolution - which came as part of the first Arab Spring (see Paul Danahar's The New Middle East for more). That they also attacked Assad's forces is certainly true, but they did not receive Western funding. There are more than two sides involved in the current Iraqi/Syrian crisis, but ISIS have become the catchall name for at least two groups.

Well ISIS is a predominantly Iraqi organisation. Their stated target is establishing Baghdad as centre of the caliphate. Given relative wealth, the West is rightly more concerned with the fall of Baghdad than of Damascus. Neither of which will happen.

I think this is true. All of the bombing is currently in Syria because Syria provides the territorial home of ISIS. Military action will be on the ground in both Iraq and Syria, but the battle between "good" and "evil" is far clearer in Iraq - at least in public perception.
