Rubbish when was the last time we never scored Belgium game maybe<scored against Germany twice against England and three against Croatia getting max points the top seeds in our group. And beat Poland with a goal away, scored two against Macadonia away,it is not keeping a clean sheet that destroys us

Go look at our scoring stats against comparable nations - Kenny Miller's scoring record is poorer than the best goalscorers of Armenia, Belarus, Malta, Georgia, Latvia and a myriad of other small-to-medium nations.

When you look back at recent qualifying campaigns - it's 0-0 with the likes of Norway and Lithuania that kills us - not getting beaten by Belgium!

Here's a objective comparison of the most recent campaign

2014 World Cup

Scored 8, Conceded 12 (Macedonia scored 7, conceded 16; Wales scored 9. conceded 20; Armenia scored 12, conceded 13; Albania scored 9, conceded 11)

Out of the groups that played 10 games, these were the only teams that scored LESS than us: Macedonia, Malta, Kazakhstan, Faroe Islands, Estonia, Andorra, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and San Marino

2012 European Championships and 2010 World Cup we were in a group of 5 so objective comparisons aren't possible - (the comparison is even worse than the above)

If you compare and contrast goal scoring rates across Europe, we perform incredibly poorly - the only reason we're even remotely competitive is that we tend to concede a relatively small number of goals in comparison to similar European sides.

When we lose, it's most often by 1 goals - occasionally 2. The reason we don't qualify is because we average LESS THAN ONE GOAL PER GAME. (2014, 8 from 10; 2012, 9 from 8; 2010, 6 from 8 ) To put that into context, with those goals - we couldn't even win every game if we didn't concede a single goal!!!

That is a pathetic return - in fact, so poor, that in the last three tournaments our entire squad has been outscored by the top goalscorer for that qualification period.

Norway and Lithuania were not in our last group we have a new squad since 2010 so its pretty pointless comparing them

Right now we have new players all experiencing what international football is all about some will take to it fast others will take more time

Lack of goals was not helped with Steven Fletcher refusing to play for us and kicking Kris Boyd out for booze gate when we needed him

I am not interested in the other teams unless we are playing them much more interested in our own team and players coming through

Its not all doom and gloom its just that defence we need a new generation coming through there and not many good ones are around

We have so many options now middle to front we should be scoring more goals I agree with you the signs are good been so for last while

Could easily had a few more goals in the Nigeria game as well and run out comfortable winners just conceded the equaliser at the end

We probably don't disagree in all honesty - I just love to lament about our poor goalscoring records. They really are appalling by international standards - we haven't had a hat trick since 1967 after all!

I fundamentally agree that we need better defenders - and that's probably why we didn't qualify for Euro 2008. Since then we've had an appalling record in front of goal - which I find incredibly frustrating...

In the past decade or so - the games that trip us up are when we lose 1-0 to Belarus, 0-0 with Slovenia, 1-1 with Moldova, 1-0 to Macedonia, 1-0 to Lithuania... that list goes on. While we achieve the odd results against a Holland, Germany or France - it's the results against the lesser teams that are the difference between qualifying and not - and we're too often 'not'...

Even Italy, Spain, France and England concede goals to poor teams - the difference is they are capable of scoring 2 or 3 more than the opposition. Simply put - we aren't.

The last time we scored 3 was 19 games ago. Before that it was another 10. I just wish we were more able to see out games.

Boyd wasn't involved in boozegate. He made himself unavailable for a spell after falling out with George Burley following the Norway game.

McGregor Ferguson were though thought he was as well can mind he spat the dummy out after he brought Iwelumo on versus Norway

Shame that he is not a defender we have plenty of talented midfield men around right now we want to make the jump guys like Fulton at Swansea we want in there team

Is this post for real? In stead of just being happy we might have a good young attacking player on our hands you would rather he was a defender

Jeezo, man.

Fulton is a good attacking player scored twice on a trial for Man United

I do think it's interesting that in recent years most of the eye catching talent has tended to be smaller, very technically gifted winger / attacking midfield type players – perhaps influenced by more technical coaching, or being inspired by the likes of Messi and Silva on the TV / FIFA games. However, a couple of encouraging things are first, Andrew Robertson's meteoric rise to the top. We suddenly have a skillful, physical, pacey left back who's playing (and getting lots of positive comments) in England's top league. The fact he was playing amateur football just a couple of years ago suggests there may be more defenders out there who can develop quickly with the benefit of first team football.

The second positive (and back on topic) is that Harper is over 6ft and looks physically strong for his age. It would be good to have a forward with good strength and pace to match up with strong technical skills. Fingers crossed he keeps developing and either makes it at Madrid, or moves to another high level team in Spain / Europe.

Disappointed to see that he didn't even get off the bench in our 2-2 draw today

We have a kid playing for the biggest and best team in world football. Probably being trained by the best coaches. Who is highly regarded yet cant get a game for our U21s. The sooner that kid swaps to Spain the better for him.

This wasn't even the U21s, this was the U19s?!?

Let's not pretend to know the reason why Harper didn't play on Tuesday. That could be for any number of reasons.

We play Lithuania today - let's see if he starts.

they're playing three games in six days. real madrid probably wouldn't even want him playing in so many games in such a short time

Maybe he wasn't fit. Maybe they were saving him for another game. Maybe he's not actually very good. It's pretty hard to speculate on a guy who has not played a single game of senior football in his life, and who most posters on here will only have seen playing for less than two hours of football.
