Casuals / Ultras / Wankers

Recommended Posts

Reading through the forum yesterday there seems to have been a resurgence of casuals / ultras in Scottish football. The Ross County-St Johnstone thread mentioned that the StJ 'Mongo Army' were out in force in Dingwall and I hear that Hibs fans (no doubt waiting on the Bridge of Doom) stole a banner from Livingston supporters yesterday. In my own sides game a few dozen Hamilton 'lads' made an appearance at Hamilton West station where they shouted abuse at, er, a large group of visiting Canadian schoolchildren. An utter head's gone embarrassment all round.

Is this sort of stuff becoming prevalent in Scottish football? Last season some St Johnstone fans sneaked into the Caley end and stole a Caley flag, only to give it back when told that it was a flag that had belonged to a now-deceased Caley fan.

I don't think anyone would begrudge any set of fans improving the atmosphere at Scottish games and some of these groups have certainly done that - I was at the Caley-Well game at the end of last season and thought their fans in the corner of the 'Keep Cigarettes Away From The Match' stand (that's what everyone thinks of it as Well fans) created a good noise without being wee dicks. However, the flag stealing and casual antics have the potential to end up with people getting into trouble and things getting out of hand. A lot of the people in these groups seem to be very young and might not realise how seriously the police take disorder at football - if they catch you they will prosecute you. Also, the Ultras culture (defend your flag etc) is completely alien to Scottish football culture, plenty of people will not expect to have dozens of clobbered up 16 year olds to try and steal the flag they've taken to a game, kind of defeating the point of the whole exercise.

Anyone got any further tales of Ultras / Casuals / wankers insanity. Lets use this thread to track them through the season.

The 'Mongo Army' and 'Young Team' are two different sets.

The 'Mongo Army' are actually alright and don't get involved in much these days. The 'Young Team' are the ones that carry the drum and have been causing trouble here and there for quite a while now. They seem to save the worst of it for the Highlands and fucking Switzerland

The Hamilton fans overall are a good bunch but theres about 15-20 who seem to think they're the next biggest casuals. Done it in Alloa twice last year and one of the times it was in the paper that 2 of them got done it at the train station while the rest ran and hid on the train leaving the other 2 getting a kick-in :lol:

Tried that nonsense against us as well - a Hamilton fan old enough to know better spearheaded a charge on the Dundee buses (which I might add included a number of children) only to be knocked clean out by a teenage Dundee fan with 1 swift blow. This teenage Dundee fan, although only 16/17 is a rather large chap incidentally.

That brought a fairly abrupt end to proceedings thankfully. Minter-tastic. maybe not as bad as their partizan protection of the shed which seems to involve a lot of miming cut throats and upside down piano playing.

Pwopa Nawty.

Hamilton fans were quite embarrassing but they were clearly seething. It the wee fan groups that think they're big time like them and St Johnstone that are shite.

Mon then ya p***k. Bring yer maw.

Those Hamilton youngsters on Saturday all had fake tan on.

Fucking queerhawks.

Don't think the fat ginger in the Harrington jacket was actually wearing fake tan, his freckles had just grown together.

The stealing flags thing is big on the continent. Saints fans had a flag (and scarves) stolen in Slovakia on Thursday and there was also one taken in Switzerland, although it was maybe returned after the home leg? Imagine much like pyro last year, this stealing flags could become the big thing over here this season and then it'll be on to something else in 2015/16.

The young team are fine when they are in the stadium behaving and generally supporting the team. Credit to them for the card displays etc. Where they let themselves and Saints down is when they spit at players, break seats and just act like idiots walking to/from ground.

Livi's Ultras deserved to get their flag nicked for calling themselves the 'Drum Beat Mafia' anyone know if the LAC are still going?

I don't know if the Queen's Ultras have a name yet but they are fucking tragic, singing the St Pauli song over and over with like 5 people isn't improving the atmosphere at all. Interesting to see what they are like when their big team is in town this year.
