The level of coverage St Mirren have been given this season has been remarkable for a Championship club. A club that have struggled for most of the season too. The fawning over their 'remarkable' turnaround and their manager has been laughable. They're definitely the new media darlings of Scottish football.

If they don't win the Championship by at least 10 points next season, heads should roll.

It's amazing how 7th in the championship is a "remarkable achievment".

Jim Duffy at Morton has been bummed up all season for the "remarkable job" he's done at Morton. They won 13 of 36 Championship games.

Getting to a League Cup semi final for the first time since 1981 or something adds a reasonable enough gloss to the campaign. But most pundits clearly stopped paying attention to the league in the final quarter of campaign: Duffy has achieved no wins in the last ten games.

A solid B+ campaign but if shit punditry packs him off to Motherwell or another top-flight club then I won't be complaining.

Is Young still on about Duffy becoming Scotland manager?

I cut him a lot of slack for 2 reasons. 1, he has a genuine enthusiasm for non-Premiership football. 2, he is one of the few pundits who doesn't act like he's been offered shit on a plate when he's been asked to cover a game at some backwater ground (yes, like Dumbarton's).

While this is true, he genuinely offers no insight whatsoever. I couldn't care less about the way he talks - that's an extremely cheap shot from Darren - but he clearly has no tactical understanding of football whatsoever, which a pretty significant skill to lack for a football journalist. He's even lacking on far more basic stuff than coherent tactical analysis - half the time on Open All Mics when he's describing something you're left with no clue which team he's actually referring to because he hasn't clearly and simply described the incident.

Did you or someone else, maybe @Dunning1874 mention something about a longest winless run this century @virginton ?

Fucking OOFT.

If you fail to win tonight, how long into Morton's past does that take us?

Not having a go, just statto-ing.

As it stands this is our longest since 2001/02, which was also a run of 4 draws and 6 defeats, although two of those were cup ties against sides from a higher division whereas this run is all league/playoff games. Prior to that it was 12 games without a win in 2000/01. A tremendous couple of seasons, there.

If we fail to win again tonight and start next season badly, then you're looking back to 93/94 when we went 13 without a win (although the win to end it was a cup tie against lower league opposition - the league winless run was 17). The club record is 20 in 87/88, so we're still a bit away from that.

It's quite incredible that despite being in the promotion playoffs, we're on a worse run of form than we ever had in the completely shambolic seasons that were 13/14 and 03/04.

I'm starting to fear for Jim Duffy's Scotland chances.

Is VirginTon the sort of chat I can look forward to in the Championship forum next season?  Fucking hell.

It's actually the swear filter that does it. One can only assume Div was taking a St. Mirren defeat especially badly that day.

I don't think he's the worst, but he is very guilty of the bit you refer to at the end there.

Open All Mics does create that issue a bit with it's self consciously hectic format, but that makes it more important that the basics are given.  If you come into the programme half way through and you're not totally up to speed on who plays for say, Ross County or Motherwell at right back, you can genuinely be alerted in the most dramatic terms to a goal being scored, but have the segment finish without being aware of which teams were involved or what the scoreline has now become.

It's bloody frustrating.

You're in no doubt when it's that arsehole Sandra Brown. If she's near orgasm QOS have scored. If she sounds like her gran's died it's whoever they're playing.

Good old football. Must be the only area where your job is communicating verbally to a mass audience but don't need to be able to speak the language properly or string a proper sentence together.

What a fecking schedule on Sportsound tonight  .

810 MW  - Live Commentary of a meaningless football match.

FM  - Live Commentary of a Rugby Match featuring no Scottish Clubs.

A very important Play Off Match from Tannadice. - They don't care.

Where would that have fitted Sevco in if they had been playing ?

On Off The Ball they were discussing if Motherwell would have to go part time if they were relegated.

I can't think of a single example of a full time club having to go part time after being relegated from the top to the second tier.

I know they say that they're 'petty and ill informed', but it used to be that they did know quite a bit about Scottish football as a whole. Over the last few years they really have started to show that they really know very little these days. Just look back over this thread for little examples.

Also Cowan hit out today with the pearler that today's game is bigger than the cup final Motherwell won. Any Motherwell fans agree?
