Generally they don't.

Away and don't talk nonsense. Players understand the rules better than referees because they know when they should be applied with common sense. Referees don't properly understand the game and hence enforce the rules directly in their SFA manual without any flexibility.

Players think they know better than the referee which is why they are almost always aggressive when speaking to a referee who has the temerity to give a decision against their team. Players are biased remember.

Refs in rugby take their time to explain every decision,in big tv games they are wired up so players and fans know why every decision is made.Refs in fitba are a wee bit too arrogant sometimes and act like the players dont know the rules of the game they have been playing all their lives.Fitba is open to interpretation more than rugby but when a ref gives an award to one team that he hasn't given to another,it annoys fans and fans more than anything want consistancy. Some refs treat a match like they are enjoying it and don't mind a bit of banter and having a laugh at moaning players, others look like they are only doing it for the cash, the career, the getting oot the hoose fae the wife and weans.Folk say it's no as easy job but some refs make it harder for themselves than it need be.A very rarely shout at refs as a don't believe any are a cheat( except for Cammy Melville ) and fitba needs them.

Watch the way rugby players approach the referee, very rarely aggressive and always accepting of his decision whether they agree or not. Compare that with footballers, many of whom are aggressive, often abusive and insulting.

Football has an culture problem where people have been brought up to believe that it's acceptable to behave in such a manner towards referees. Personally I would have a zero tolerance stance towards this. If a 17-stone testosterone-fuelled brute of a rugby player can behave himself there is no reason why any footballer shouldn't.

What is your definition of zero tolerance from referees towards footballers and managers ?
