Alex Salmond Death Threats

After all the hoo-ha about JK Rowling and Lallygate you'd have thought the BBC, fine upstanding guardians of civil behaviour, would have been purple faced with rage about this:

So where's the wall to wall coverage? Will Good Morning Scotland drop everything for this? Is Sarah Smith poised for an expose of the filthy underbelly of Better Together? Will Johan Lamont now rein in her online attack dogs?

Er, probably not.

I tried to click on the link but it didn't go the the article. Maybe the OP can post the text so we can evaluate it.

Are we unable to get in because the Sun is behind a paywall? I'd like to read the article, but won't subscribe to the Sun to do so.

Never mind. I'm sure that the whole Scottish press will provide a full report tomorrow.

Stupid people. Who gets so angry at someone's politics they actually threaten to kill them?

Didn't that 'Scottish Nationalist Liberation Army' (the ones that were trying to form a Scottish nationalist IRA) group send a bullet to Alex Salmond a few years back? Seem to remember they sent one to my local MSP at the time as well.

People take things too seriously.

Licht, I clicked and it wanted a subscription (don't know if it's paid or unpaid). Either way I shan't be joining. If the OP thinks it's worth a discussion he should put the text of the article here.

It's behind a paywall. I'm not paying for that shit either!

How convenient . . .

I would suggest its pretty damn inconvenient for the FM. The second prominent member of the YES campaign to have their life threatened over their referendum intentions.

Clearly BetterTogether are losing control of their cyber warriors.

Call me cynical but that this story appears so soon after.

If there has been a "threat" it is probably no different from the poison pen letters politicians receive on a daily basis. I have had happen myself after having a letter printed on the local paper. Personally, I wouldn't get upset about it.

The difference here with Rowling is that there isn't a smoking gun linking this "threat" to BT - unlike the Rowling threat which clearly is.

Any "threat" made to Salmond is more likely to have been made by some unaligned nutjob than a party hack - unless it has been (shall we say) "created" to take the heat off - but perish the thought that political activists would do such a thing - would they?

First Minister Alex Salmond is at the centre of online death threats as police investigate posts made about the First Minister on social networking site Facebook.

One of the threats on the web claimed that there was a plan to “hire a hitman” to kill the SNP leader, while another said “someone needs to take him out”. One message called for the SNP leader to be shot, while another online poster announced they want to put him “in a Saddam Hussein hole”.

Well that's pretty much blown DeeTillEhDeh's theory out the water.

What's it going to take for No Thanks chaps to realise there's social media nutters on both sides? To pretend otherwise is death eater-ish.

oh well, there's a list of front doors that Police Scotland will be kicking in soon, at 6 in the morning.

cannot believe how many idiots actually post this stuff under their own name for all to see on the internet. Death threats, threats of rape, just corrosive hatred. If you said this stuff to someone's face (and of course these type never would, as they will almost certainly be eye-contact avoiding, poorly socialised, shoegazing mumbleclowns) you'd be arrested for breach of the peace / behaving in a threateneing manner etc.

expect some tear-stained "it wiz awnly banter" confessions from these knuckle draggers in the tabloids soon.
