Richey Edwards
The current universally adopted points system is 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0,for a defeat but how about deducting points from the losing team? It would encourage teams to attack each other and make relegation battles more interesting as teams will lose points as well as their rivals gaining points. In what way is deducting points for a defeat, any different than awarding more points for a draw or win?

sjc
Have heard the idea mooted about awarding points per goal in order to encourage attacking play but deducting points?!
Jan Vojáček
Without a shadow of a doubt this is the single worst idea I have ever read on here (and trust me I've seen a lot of garbage)

HibeeJibee
So much negativity. OP might have a point. I'd also stop rewarding draws. I'd propose 2pts for a win, 0pts for a draw, -1pt for a defeat...

ShawfieldAggro
Always favoured rewarding goals.....4 goals, irrespective of the result, should reward 1 bonus point, with one per goal after that. Clean sheets should also be given a bonus point.....realistically its not something thats going to be easily manipulated if, say, a 0-0 would benefit both teams, but only if the third or fourth parties did not win 4 or 5-0 and claimed up to three bonus points, if you get my drift
jmothecat
Wouldn't that just encourage draws?
ShawfieldAggro
Well, only if we found ourselves with three or four 4-4s every week. But if you're rewarding attacking play AND defensive consistency then who's to say that wouldn't occur anyway....i'll adjust my suggestion. Bonus point if you win by at least three clear goals without conceding.....is that better???
Monkey Tennis
The initial proposal is staggeringly stupid. It's sector leading.
craigkillie
How about punishing draws too? 1pt for a win, -1pt for a draw, and -2pts for a defeat...? I think it's important to make sure teams don't get demoralised when they lose, so I'd give out points regardless of the outcome. 10 points for a win, 8 for a draw and 7 for a defeat sounds good. Bully Wee Villa
I'd give out zero points for a defeat, -1 for a draw and -3 for a win. Whoever finishes with the lowest points total wins the league. Feel this could revolutionise the game.
